It's just you. I play the game on a normal zoomed level.

I'd advise putting your spending slider at 100% and leaving ~2000 BC to run a deficit rather then spending it all on colony ships. Then, I would put my research slider at 0 because until your economy is up and you've built a few labs it's pretty useless to be teching. I would build an extra two manufacturies on earth, then two labs and then a farm and an approval building. give 50-50 to your military/social spender. Social spending gets you manufacturies on earth which makes colony sh
"One of these is the technology tree, I struggled to get to grabs with the sheer complexity of the interactions over various technology lines." Is this sarcasm? Galciv II has the simplest tech tree ever. After the first few levels it's strictly linear.
1) Galciv 2 is easier to play then Galciv 1. I no longer collapse under my own weight as discontent forces my taxes/spending to drop to absymal levels and production slows to a crawl. Did I mention I suck at Galciv1? In contrast, I dominate at normal in Galciv 2. 2) The tech tree is more accessible, but it lost some of if's character. 3) Planets gained specialty but when I have 20, It's a pain to remember which each one is supposed to be doing. Maybe I should name them with
it's just counter-intuitive and a big exploit, is all. In Galciv1 you had to pay it ALL back.
See, you just found the reason why I always play the federalists with +50% economy. Money can be hard to come by when you build too many factories like me.
My galciv2 invariably crashes as the game lenghens. I put auto-save every 4 turns to try and counter that.
If Moo2 can have leaders, I can't see how putting them in a game 10 years younger could possibly be any difficult. Rather, it's just one of those tons of feature ideas that have been proposed that the devs just aren't interested in.
EaW isn't that bad, really. It's fun. It's probably not as good an investment as, say, Starcraft. Or Moo2. Or Galciv. But it's still fun. And yes, the AI in rebellion is lame. Even on hard. The only way to get it reasonably strong is to volontarily cripple yourself at the start.
No tactical. Maybe add a 3rd Dimension for moving units "up" and "down" though. That'd be cool, but you'd have to keep the third dimension small, or trying to see all the galaxy would become a nightmare. Then again, galaxies are disk-like and not sphere-like, so that's doable. Wasn't Moo 3 in three dimension, except the
The big problem with tactical is that with it you feel you have to take over every single battle. But at some point there's an insane amount of fights you have to do, and a good part of them will be very easy for you. But the computer doesen't know that. Exemple : If I control my forces in Rome Total War, I am usually assured victory if the opposing army is smaller then me. But the game doesen't know that. If I hit an army that's half my size and I use "generate results", I
A nice vid of the battle screen in action would get the masses blood pumping Oh sweet lord YES! The game is already incredibly beautiful. This is the prettiest turn-based strategy game ever. We're all very excited to see a battle. Any way to show us one? Is it too much to hope to see a Dread Lord ship in action
You mean you're not already leaning towards evil if you start as drenghin? Why not?
If you play as an alien (non-human) factions, do you still choose a political party? I can't see the Drenghins being led by a pacifist party, for instance.
