Good points Bill. I understand the subscription concept and I certainly wasn't suggesting that $20 would make us stockholders. Just that the site could become more of a true "community" rather than a stardock skin library.

T-Man > "First off, the skins are rated by my fellow administrators, who I think do an awesome job." Is it this sites policy for admins to make a point of rating and commenting on submissions? If that is the case, then in my experience it's not being done. Obviously my experience is mostly limited to Windowblinds/XP Skins, but I see very few comments from admins. I see very few comments from admins. I also see many many skins that have no ratings at all therefore preventing

Last attempt adni, I'll try to break it down easier. Develop relationships with fellow skinners/artists in order to get support on both levels (technical and support/encouragement). You can develop those kind of relationships in the places I mentioned (IRC and sites that are mainly populated by skinners, as opposed to this site which the majority are just skin users).

"The future of skinning is depending from the technical and ethical support that the Old Guard gives to the New Blood! It is a pity, but I don't see neither of those supports, as it is supposed to be, I never get any." by adni18 - 5/1/2002 8:55:04 PM The suppport and help is there adni, you just have to look in the right places. I thought this to be the case when I first started making skins, but eventually I learned where to go to get the help and support I needed. I think

That's pretty funny stuff koop. On the same topic....If you were to appear on Beat The Geeks (The Comedy Central show), which geek could you fill in for, or what special guest geek would you be? I'd like to be the movie geek, but could never fill any of their shoes.

The debate once again goes back to what is acceptable behavior to who. rkenshen's behavior would probably be more acceptable to me if in fact he was a teenager. however, he's 21 years old. Obviously, acceptable behavior for a 21 will differ depending on each person's life experience. In my mind, this kind of stuff would be ok for a 15 or 16 year old...I had a cause at that age also. But at 21, I was married and had 2 kids, therefore I see things from a different point of view, when it comes

I agree that recently there has been a drought of creativity in WB skins. I'm not sure it it's that there are just so many skins, that leave little yet to be done, or just fewer true artists left making WB skins. However, there are still several skinners (trretog, alexandrie, hippy, essorant, and others) that you can always count on to at least bring a fresh take on an old idea, or make something truly original. Another factor involved is that there are several skinners (myself included) that

1. What's happened to the "Gooey" awards? Weren't there supposed to be nominees announced a week or so ago? 2. What happened to the five additional "awards" related to the GuiOlympics? Those were supposed to be announced three weeks ago. 3. Should all the winners from the contest have been contacted already regarding the deivery of prizes?

I think I can help you with most of your questions. Do you have a program called Common Names installed? If so, this is probably what is causing your problems with the titlebar buttons. Try uninstalling that and see if it works then. If that doesn't do it, there may be some other programs causing it, but I'm not familiar with all of them. Check the Stardock newsgroups for more info in that if necessary. Windowblinds does not change icons, but stardock does make a program ca

I know we've beat this to death a few times before, but a little discussion on IRC tonight prompted me to do some research. While these stats are only on my skins, I would not be surprised to find that many other author's stats are similar. My total downloads here at WC - 174,505 Comments left on my skins @ WC - 166 Thats an average of 1,051 d/s for every comment. My total downloads at LOS - 9,195 Comments left at LOS - 64 Average of 143 d/l per comment

I can help you with a couple of your questions. By default, WB is set to not skin display properties, but this can be changed by adding SkinDisplay=1 to the wb.ini file in your windows directory. As far as uploading Xp skins. All you have to do is upload it to the Windowblinds section and check the box that states thatthe skin is optimized for XP.

psf> you never know that you have any talent until you try though. I made my first skin 6 months ago and it was horrible. So much so that I almost said ehhh, this isn't for me. I kept at it though and now I like to think that I'm at least fairly good at it. I have no training in art or computer graphics, and actually do the majority of my work in mspaint because I don't know how to use psp or photoshop. So....again, don't assume that you have no talent until you give it a few patient tries.
