I thought I would try and breath some life into my aging PC by stripping down my XP installation using nlite (http://www.nliteos.com/). One of the things I was intending to sacrifice was XP's own theme service. I had heard this was feasible when using Windowblinds. However, if I turn off the theme service and reboot I get windows classic! If I go into windowblinds config and select a theme I get the same result - windows classic in the themes colors. Various sources have suggested that get

Most visual styles seem to work fine when run via windowblinds, although I sometimes find myself realigning the start button or something. However, this one got me stumped: http://customize.org/xpthemes/55288 I get magic pink showing and generally weird behavior from the scrollbars. Can't see how to fix it. If anybody has any ideas please let me know. Also, how do I run msstyles via the uxtheme.dll without windowblinds kicking in? Is it possible? Many thanks..

I'll upgrade when Stardock see fit to offer reduced price upgrade fees for longtime users. I have standalone WB (not object desktop) and I'll be damned if I'm forking out another $20 for v6. It would be nice if people who bought prior to feb 2007 were offered some kind of deal via email.

The best antivirus is common sense. I've had a PC for 9 years, and I've never had a virus. Trust me, I've downloaded all sorts of suspect stuff but I just manually scan it as and when required (with NOD32). I don't need something scanning files I know are clean, bogging me down in the background. I use Comodo firewall which isn't just a good FREE firewall, it beats much of the paid-for opposition to shame. I've never used Internet Explorer, which makes me less susceptible to ma

Right, everybody seems to have leapt onto the "backup bandwagon", but vstyler I'm here to tell you that you are absolutely right: having to manually delete folders to update is painfully stupid and relatively easy to rectify...... If WB checked if a previous version of a skin existed (or at least a folder with the same name) when a .wba file was applied, it could popup a warning and ask the user if they wanted to proceed with an update, it could then automate the process of removing the

I've tried all the themes in this category and the only one that I (and several other users, judging by the posts) had major issues with was Evolution, due to font and background issues in several big name applications. The author was duly made aware of the problems but seems to have ignored them. Thus, he will probably win.

No disrespect to anybody , but when I saw the results of this I thought it was a purely public vote and somehow it'd been rigged. I was stunned to read that a panel of judges were involved. I think you can gauge the popularity of a skin by the reaction it gets from the public and if you look at the amount of posts (or lack thereof) next to some of the winning skins here then you can understand some of the bemusement and hostility at the results. Oh well.

svchost is the host process for services (service host!). You'll notice that 99% of services that are shown as running in admin tools don't show up in task manager - they are instead running as part of svchost.exe. When you strip your services down you'll find that svchost consumes less and less memory. Svchost is obviously a legitimate app and is nothing to worry about. Good luck!

bcmwltry.exe is the tray bar process for the Broadcom Corporation Wireless Network software. Get hold of WinPatrol (www.winpatrol.com, funnily enough!) or run msconfig and disable this app from running at startup. You shouldn't have any further issues.

This is the Eminence theme that i got from skinning.net (don't think its available here yet). Anyway, you can see that the fonts are screwed up in this opera shot - its the same with firefox too. I've had this with a couple of other themes (i forget which now though). The only way to fix it is to change the fonts to large, and then back to normal everytime WB is l

Shareware version is too crippled to judge (I wouldn't expect a fully functional version but this is a joke). Oh and the config utility trys to initiate an outbound internet connection which plays havoc with my firewall. Why?

When I double click a .wba file it appears in windowblinds control panel but when I go to apply it it will only apply to windows or dialogs not the taskbar. So I'm stuck with the old themes taskbar and the recently downloaded themes windows etc. This happens with all themes once the "bug" has kicked in. Running a
