Cat's are Weird!

We have 6 cats!  It was not really planned, but it happened.

When my wife and I started dating, she had 4 cats and I had a dog.  Due to the nature of our romance, I had to get rid of the dog when she started digging under the fence (she was a pound rescue and I found a very good home for her - our neighbors behind us).

Then one of her cats, her favorite, died.  She was really upset about it.  So we went looking for another white cat.  (Sparky was white as were 2 of the other 3. The fourth was black and white.)  I did not realize that you had to be interviewed for cats!  But we searched pounds and the classifieds and could not find one.

Then one day, she checked the pound in her county.  No white cats.  But 3 Mary kittens that were about to be put down.  Her heart would not let that happen, so I acquired 3 Mary kittens! (we still had separate houses).

As our romance grew and we were wed, we knew we had to combine the households.  So we introduced the cats.  Her 3 males, and my 2 females and 1 male.  Eventually, they all moved in at our house.

So OK, the 3 males had pretty much grown up together and they either played or tolerated each other.  My 3 kittens grew into Cats and since they knew each other from the womb, always got along, although each had their own personality (and we named them very well!).

But now they were a family of 6 cats!  At first, they were 2 factions.  Wary of each other, but middling tolerant of each other.  But over the years (3 now), things started to change.  The loving Himalayan always like to play with the black cat.  But the black cat was getting old and was tiring of cat play.  So in steps the male Mary cat!  And they became best of buds!

The non-Himalayan white has always been a real bastard!  Never wanted to have anything to do with anyone or any cat!  But the runt of the Mary's was always a little imp!  And so they bonded and now are best of Buds!  So much so that the Himalayan and the runt always fight (and the Himalayan is the sweetest of the 6!).

And grandpa?  The Black cat (he is now about 10)?  Does he love the biggest female Mary? In a way.  They both compete for the spot between my wife and I!  Sibling rivalry on display!

So the 2 families are now the Brady bunch!  But it is not Marsha, Jan and Cindy against Greg, Peter and Bobby!  It is Bobby and Cindy against Peter and Jan, and Marsha and Greg ignoring the rest of them!  And vying for the most loving cat!

My house is now a cat house Peyton place!

Cat's are weird! But how anyone cannot like them, I simply can't fathom. They are adorable and affectionate (most of time) animals and they just make me melt. My husband and I joke about how our cat is our daughter because we treat her so well and spoil her as if she was our baby! She even sleeps with us every night, right in between us close to our faces! She's a cutie.

Well your house must seem like a zoo at times! Bless you and your wife for being so kind hearted!

I love cats, the way they look, the way they move, the way they sound. But alas, I can't BREATHE when they are in the house.

I tried a few years ago to incorporate a cat into our home figuring breathing to be over rated.

But she had some funky disease and had to be put down. Once gone, I realized breathing is a good thing...and we have not had another.

We do have a neighborhood cat though and we love her to pieces...outside!

Every word you said is the truth!  They are little people!  We have 6 children between the 2 of us as well (shush!  We are Catholic after all).  Kind hearted?  Sometimes, I think "sucker" is written on my forehead.  But yea even my dog (I had a dog from pup to death and I am still not over his death) Lil'Girl?  At least we get to see her!  Shame about the fence, but her new family loves her and that is enough for me!

My wife has alergies as well (actually it is not the cat hair, it is the mites in the cat hair according to her Herpitologist (sp)).  But she loves cats, and so do I now.

But they are inside/outside cats.  yes, they do jump the fence.  But rarely stray far.  They know where their meals are! (actually they are very teritorial as well.  We hear them many a morning mrowing at a neighbors cat that wants to taste their food!)

Actually it is not bad.  As I said, inside and outside.  So we have a litter box inside and one in the garage (2.5 car one - heated as that is where my wife stores her non-native plants that cannot weather the winters!).  So once in the morning and once at night.  of course I am buying stock in the Kitty litter company!

That is awesome! That would be hardest part of having to give up a pet, is not knowing what happens to them. At least you know she is being loved and taken care of.

My ex has as many, and her house stinks of it!  But we do keep on top of it.  Just donate to the "cats-r-us Litter" fund, and I should be set!

A co-worker asked me to take her in just after my first divorce (he wanted me to have some love - great guy!).  But I am really not over my Tzar yet (he was a polish sheppard and basically raised my 4 children).  I loved and do love her.  But there was never the bonding.  She is doing well, and I get to see and pet her!  And her new family (they had a dog - looks like a miniture lab) are great for her!  They walk her by the house daily.

Yikes. I like them too... but like Tova, I can't breathe when they enter the house. It gets worse, though... my eyes itch, I rub them, they swell up.. pretty soon I can't see OR breathe (and I'm not a pretty sight to behold either). Wish I could tolerate them. Ah, well.

Must be a woman thing!  My wife (who got me hooked on these guys) is alergic as well.  But we got hepa filters and a hepa vacuum, and she does ok.  besides, if I say "outside' she lets them in!

I am glad I dont have allergies! (well except Holly Bushes!)

I love my cat...mingo. We've had her since 1990. The most loveable affectionate kitty out there. She has a once broken leg when she was a baby and when she sits on a fence or chair it hangs down. It's really a sight to see.

In Sept we thought she was a goner...spent quite a bit at the vets. Lost a ton of weight and wasn't moving around much. Fifteen hundred dollars later still wasn't sure but it had to do with her liver and not eating. He said it's a cat thing about fat getting into the liver...they don't see this in dogs. The only way to reverse it is to get her to eat.

So after babying her and making her eat and giving her potassium she's as good as new. The vet cannot believe she's alive. She's reverted back to childhood chasing little pieces of paper around the house and eating like a pig. She is soon to be 16.

So make sure your kitties eat. This happened when we went away for 10 days and she stopped eating . It's a common cat problem.

Today my dog got hit by a car. He's ok but out of sorts and sore. If it isn't the cat.....it's the dog.

On the first we do! We actually do the ritzy stuf, although the cats dont seem to care.

But how is the dog?  I hope ok!

Ok, call me a sucker!  I love them, and worry about them.

Mingo is sadistic. ... when I go to KFC's house... she vacuums and everything, to cut down on my allergy suffering... but wouldn't you know, I just sit down and that cat homes in on me... it's like she KNOWS. Too funny!

How's Quincy today? I didn't realize he got hit!

Cat's what?

I saw an interesting TV show the other day. The heaviest fish that a cat can carry in its mouth is 2 kilograms.

She loves you!  She does not know you are allergic, she just wants to welcome you with a Purr!

I saw a cat that was not much bigger than a squirrel take one down and kill it.The squirrel almost dragged her away!

We just ran into this. Recently moved (just this past weekend, as a matter of fact - still sore). Our new apartment doesn't allow pets, so we had to give our sweet little cat away. Fortunately, my mom (also a sucker for a fuzzy face) likes her, knows the grandkids dote over her, so she volunteered to adopt the sweet thing. The cat loves my parents (and is very familiar w/ my brother who splits residency between my place, my parents place and his apartment in Blackstone ... ) so she's not had a problem with that. It's the other cats my parents have.

My daugther, when we told her that we weren't going to be able to take the cat with us, but her grandmother was going to adopt her was initially heartbroken. Then she perked up all of a sudden. I asked her what she was thinking about and she responded, "Well, I'm sad that Kelly can't come with us, but I'm happy that she'll have playmates. And we'll still be able to see her when we visit Grammy." Now, imagine that spoken by a cute 4 y/o girl with a Southern drawl mixed with a New England accent... Absolutely adorable.

That is a great attitude!

I too love cats but have only one. I've had her for over ten years now and she is one of my best friends. I'd love to have one or two more but she is such a cantankerous beast, I'm sure she'd tear any other cat to shreds. I'm sure she thinks she is a dog.

Cats ARE weird but this is why I love 'em.
