Looking for a Chess Mentor

anyone?

I really enjoy chess...but I am horrible at it. I lack foresight. I understand the most basic of openings, which files to put your rooks on, basically everything that you could learn from a book. I posted a year ago asking advice to become a better chess player, and one person said that I should get a chess program, and play it till I bet it regularily. Unfortunately, I played it, but always lost. I seem to be making the same mistakes over and over again, which would not bother me, because I can learn from mistakes. However, I am unable to identify my mistakes. Once in awhile I will play Yahoo chess, but most of the time I either get destroyed by an opponent, or the opponent leaves, so I feel like I am not learning. Is anyone interested in mentoring me in Chess, or possibly a person who enjoys Chess as much as I do, but cannot seem to advance as a sparring partner? Or maybe a suggestion as to a better learning tool? I currently got ChessMentor 3.0, but its poor programming is distracting.

There is a blogger that is only posting chess stuff.  Not regularly, but fairly often. Watch for him on the newest list.

As a kid my grandfather and I would always play chess together, now I'm a fairly decent player. The best way to get better at chess is to sit down and play with another person. When the game is over point out the mistakes that the other player made, and have him/her do the same. It's just like everything else in life, practice is everything.

Tarsier,

I believe it's like "chesscoach" or something. Check in the forum archives. He's got some good information; I can vouch for it from what I've read.

Yes, it's "ChessCoach". Look in the "entertainment" section of the forums, starting with page 2.
