Hate to admit it but...Skating with Celebrities doesn't suck

I'm sure some folks will be coming by soon to take my "guy card" for this admission, but having come into the new FOX show Skating with Celebrities I had incredibly low expectations....

First, in the name of full disclosure, I'm a big fan of the show Arrested Development which Skating with Celebrities has helped bump off the schedule. I don't blame the FOX execs that much for bumping A.D., as they've given a ton of chances to critical darling A.D. to find an audience, and unfortunately it just hasn't. It's a great show that is just under-appreciated and even more under-viewed. Because of that, FOX execs opted to bump it from the schedule, and choose Skating with Celebs to replace it with.

I'm a bit more miffed that Skating with Celebs has helped keep Prison Break off the schedule, as I was really enjoying that show, but I am hopeful that the break in that show's airing will mean when it comes back it can run for several straight episodes without having to air repeats or clip shows to bring people up to date. If I get my wish and get to see a bunch of Prison Break episodes in a row (like FOX's "non-stop" season of 24) I'll be happy and get over it real quick.

To get back on track though, I really had expected that Skating with Celebs was going to suck. I expected it was going to be nothing but a train wreck, with viewers tuning in just to see the falls, scrapes, bumps and other on ice mishaps. I figured the choreography was gonna be pathetic, the skating lame, and the talent completely lacking.... Well, I have to say I'm sorry to the celebs and to FOX. The show has done better than I would have expected by far. I figured it would be on for a show or two, and then people would lose interest as fans of ice dancing and professional skating would get bored with the miscues, and viewers waiting for miscues would get burned out after a few shows.

FOX seems to have found a good mix though, airing just enough of the blooper practice footage, and the talent seems to be just daring enough to try to be very competitive. Thanks to using somewhat professional judges, rather than using a dial-in system, the show has avoided the popularity contest aspect (at least so far) and has remained entertaining and somewhat exciting to see how the pairs are going to be scored.

So, apologies FOX. Hopefully your ratings for the show will pay off, though please FOX execs, find a spot somewhere for a quality show (Arrested Development) and reward those of us viewers that are bearing with your experiments like Skating with Celebs.

It was a big surprise to me too!  I was all set to turn the channel but it sucked me in.  It has that added excitement of the possibility of someone smacking there face on cold hard ice at any moment.  I plan to tune in again this week.

You can go sit with Parated2k as he had to surrender his Guy Card as well.

Don't sweat the "guy card" thing Terp, real men are man enough to stand and be proud, even if they're watching skaters while standing proud!

((((PS. Men of "questionable" manhood have "man" in their JU Names... the same logic follows for Dr. and Guy. ;~D )))

Oh, hi Dr. Guy, how's it going this morning? :~D

You know that is so funny because I thought the exact same thing about being upset Fox is cancelling A.D. (my favorite show!) for stupid reality t.v. at first. But this really is a good show! My husband also watches it with me and said he was suprised at how good it is for having such low expectations. It is really amazing how good these celebrities can become in a matter of weeks! Did anyone catch the preview for next week when Kristy Swanson smacks her face on the ice while being lifted by her partner? Ouch!
