Favorite teams and superstitions - who has them?

As I hold my fingers somewhat crossed that my favorite NFL team will keep up the momentum and wind up in the playoffs, I'm curious how many sports fans out there consider themselves somewhat superstitious?

I'm not necessarily to the point of have to wear the lucky shirt or socks that don't get washed during the winning streak, but perhaps to the point of always wearing something with the team name/logo on game day or the days leading up to a big game.

Anyone else there with me for such fanaticism?

Well, as far as a sports fan, I don't really have any superstitions. However, when I played basketball and football in high school, I always wore a knee brace on my right knee. I tore my meniscus disc my sophomore year and after that I always wore the brace, both in basketball and football. I don't know if it was so much as a superstition or just fear!

I use to have some like yours.  But I long ago lost them as they did not seem to really work.

Ah the rapid sports fan in his natural habit and his superstitious beliefs. I think this would make a great topic for a dissertation. It definately hasn't been studied enough.

Personally, I enjoy watching a game but I rarely get overly emotionally involved. It doesn't make or ruin my day if they win or not win. I just think its fun to watch. There was one game when Pittsburgh beat the Browns in the last seconds that was almost heartbreaking. Okay maybe I sometimes get emotionally involved.

I don't have a pre-game ritual, if that's what you mean. I don't even have a lucky shirt I always wear so my team will win.
I just sit back and enjoy the game.

Well, as I said in the original article, I'm not (hopefully) off the deep-end yet, but I am somewhat superstitious about my sports teams. Like most fans, I tend to be fearful that my favorite team will lose. I know I'm not there, I'm not a player, and am not playing on the team, coaching them, etc. And yet I don't want to see my team lose, and if something I might do would bring them bad luck, then I want to avoid that.

Most of the time I would say such worries are just silly, but when it comes to sports, sometimes silly rules. Many players have their own rituals, and they can be incredibly superstitious.
