Not as strong as you, but still on the same quadrant!  I think I got docked due to my opposition to abortion.  Which is not political, but a religious issue with me.

It's kind of interesting seeing the scale and how different ideologies map out.

The horizontal one maps out individual freedom -- how free people are to do whatever they want.

The vertical one could be described as individual responsibility -- how much people are responsible for the consequences of what they want.

The bottom left (totalitarian) would be described as virtually no freedom and no responsibility because the government controls what you do.

The top left (fascism) would be described as having virtually no freedom but still being very responsible for whatever you do (yikes!).

The top right (anarchy) would be described as having total freedom and total responsibility to onself -- everyone does whatever they want but there's no law and order to keep things from going crazy.

The bottom right (socialism) is basically people should be able to party down and not take any responsibility for what they do.

The issue many Democrats have with Republicans is that Republicans would limit some personal freedoms (drugs are illegal, abortion is illegal, etc.) but people are still economically responsible for themselves.

The issue Republicans often have with Democrats is that Democrats would have it that people can go and do whatever they want but not have to take personal responsibility for it.  That's one of my big issues, particularly with socialists -- Eveyrone shoudl go party down but those of us who live responsibility end up having to clean up the mess those people make for themselves.  That's why I tend to favor moderate libertarianism -- people should be reasonably free to do what they want but also be responsible for it.  In a pinch, the system should help people but no one should be dependent on the government long-term.

It actually doesn't surprise me, Baker. If your views were more representative of the GOP at large, I'd probably be a Republican.
