Not done Christmas shopping - here's a suggestion

Serenity on DVD, can't stop the signal

If you are having a tough time shopping for that Sci-fi Action-Adventure fan in your life, here's a great suggestion for you:

Serenity, the full length motion picture that continues the adventure of the crew of the Firefly class space vessel with it's crew of privateers. IMDB information about the movie can be found: here

Serenity marked the big screen directorial debut for show creator, Joss Whedon, who is more famous for the Buffy the Vampire and Angel series on TV.

Whedon created the show Firefly for Fox network TV in the 2002 TV season. Fox mishandled the show badly and caused it to disappear from the TV after failing to air even all 14 of the shows that had been filmed. (It was gone with a few episodes left to air, which thankfully were included on the "complete series" DVD, which also thankfully gives viewers an opportunity to see the series in originally intended order, rather than in the screwed up order that Fox execs decided to air it in). For more information on the original series, see IMDB information here.

Serenity was thought by many, this writer included, to be a much better movie than any of the 3 prequel Star Wars movies could ever hope to be. Whedon delivers the goods that fans of Star Wars were hoping Lucas would come through with in the abominations called Episode 1, 2 or 3.

For those that are worried that they won't be able to appreciate Serenity without having seen the Firefly series, please have no fears. Whedon has done a great job of making his film a stand alone creation. If you've never experienced and enjoyed Firefly you can still jump right into Serenity without feeling left out. On the other hand, if you did see the Firefly series, you'll derive a bit more satisfaction from the film as you get to catch up on all of the characters in the original series.

Anyway, I highly recommend Serenity for just about everyone. It's well worth the cost of the DVD, and is on sale at most retailers since it's "release week" for that title (just released on 12/20).

Some sample pricing information:

Best Buy: $17.99 in store or online at time of this writing...

Circuit City: $17.99 online at time of this writing...

Amazon.com: $16.98 at most recent check

Walmart.com: $16.87 at time of this writing...

And in similar price ranges at other retailers.

I'd make a money back guarantee for purchasers if I had a little extra money squirreled away, but since I'm not made of money and can really only use one copy for my self, I'll have to pass on that. Even if I wanted to give copies to my friends, they've all heard me telling them that if they want to see this movie, they have to buy it for themselves as I consider this one too valuable to loan out or take to someone else's house to watch with them.
