To all the WB 5.0 skinners

I don't mean to cause a stir with this but I'm sure it is going to anyway. But, someone has to say this sometime soon. I think all you skinners are great and the blinds for 5.0 have been really good. I am seeing a problem though that I hope will change very soon. I will actually issue a challenge... one where you challenge yourselves to be a bit more creative. There seems to be a unnerving trend to just make transparent halos for the window frames. The possibilities for so much more than this exist now. There have been a few (and I stress few) new blinds where mixing up the transparency with some opacity and I commend those very few. I only say this because it seems so very sad to me to see this happening. I wouldn't even consider saying anything if I were not a skinner myself as I wouldn't feel it right to issue such a challenge. I know how difficult it is to make a Windowblinds skin. I also know how hard it is to do something different as I try to create blinds that are different than the current trend.

Before anything gets out of hand and people start hating me or something I will mention again I think the skins are great. But, I do feel so much more can be done with the new WB5 then what is being done. I also know I am not the only one thinking this.

SK, you working on anything like that? I'd like to see something from an adept skinner, as I am novice if that. Thanks.

When WB5 with per-pixel frames was first announced, I was so excited. Finally I could try a few ideas I've had in the past that weren't possible. But for me, WB5 has been a disappointment..... I don't like the borders getting chopped off when windows are maxed, and a few other things. So my ideas have been abandoned once more, and I've gone back to 4.6 for now..........

My initial feelings were exactly the same Wizop Koasati. I really didn't like the way the screen edges were clipped. Now after doing some serious experimenting with it, I have gotten used to it. It does free up a whole bunch of creative options with the window frames. You can make them as fat, thin, bsaically anything you want because it doesn't matter anymore. You will see some really whacky window frames in due time. There are loads of other features that help also. The logoff screen mask is one of my favorite new features.

I don't either so I fired up WindowsFX and set the max size

Lucky you, if that actually works correctly. Besides, I thought the current version of WinFX was incompatable with WB5....

The maximized border issue is a very serious bug which needs fixing.

I think it might be...so I turned everything else off... so far no problems using the max size

I just installed windows FX, it didn't work so I uninstalled. It lasted almost 3 minutes. LOL

it didn't work

that's sad...

using it at home with BADLANDS...still get the transparent border when window is maxed.

amen! the transparent halos are pointless. those are the skins i turn off per-pixel borders for. i'm waiting for some nice anti-aliased window borders...

I agree 100%... I have also mentioned this exact same issue with sub-par WB skins which are being created. When someone else posts this topic, they are called a genius... When I mention it, I am called a goon. What gives? I mentioned in other postings that I have been a little disappointed with the skins that are coming out for WB5 and because of that, World War 3 starts up

It's all about the wording.

You see, a fellow SKINNER will actually APPRECIATE the effort involved in making a WB [good OR bad] and will choose words wisely so as not to insult.

OTHERS, on the other hand call skins they don't happen to like [a purely subjective opinion] - crap, shit, and other similar rubbish.

The process of skinning has always been about...if you can't find something you like...make it yourself.

The follow on from that is if you can't make it yourself then you had better learn to appreciate that which you CAN get.....

......or go without.

I, on the other hand, and not a skinner, am far from being disappointed with the new WB5 skins. I will not mention any specific blinds here because there's simply too many good ones to do all the hard working and talented skinners credit. However, I will say that I'm impressed with the new features being implemented, and believe, as yet, it's still early days for many skinners to completely utilise the full potential of these new technologies.

The thing is, I expect nothing spectacular in the way of new features and graciously accept what's on offer, because somebody has generously taken the time and effort to create and share it with us. A skin is either to my tastes or its not, but I'm not going to complain if its not....or perhaps missing a feature or two that others have. I'm sure these wonderful new things will take off in time, but until then, I'm quite happy with what's on offer.

Just my point of view

Be happy with what you have. Being unsatisfied with hopes that you might be happy someday is not a good way to live life.
