My enjoyment of the show quickly waned once Wayne Rogers left. It became too "issue-oriented" for my tastes.

It was actually the opposite affect for me. I thought the first three years were too much focused on adulterous humor, funny, but after three years I was ready for a change. I think B.J. is a great character. You are right though, as the years progressed it really became less of a humor show and more issue-oriented, namely the Vietnam War.
My Original Question: What made-up rank did Hawkeye bestow on Radar to help get him into an officer's club?

I believe it was Corporal Captain, but not 100% sure...

Yeah, I am not saying that BJ was such a bad character, I just didn't like what they had as much after the first major cast turnover. It was still good, but leaning a bit toward the "just okay" side.

All things being equal, Potter, Winchester, BJ, and Klinger were pretty strong replacement characters.

I think Winchester was a great replacement for Burns, and Potter was pretty good as well.  Notice they did not replace Radar.

My Trivia question:  What 2 Actors had the same roll in the series as the Movie?

Ok, the trivia questions seem to be answered, except...

8. What is the name of Pierce’s sister and mother?
Benjamin Franklin (Hawkeye) Pierce, through most of the run of the series was understood to be an only child, raised by his father. There's only one reference to a mother and sister in the series and that is the close of one of his letters to his dad when he says, "say hi to mother and sis". (or something like that).

As far as the "preference" questions go:

1. Who do you prefer as the company clerk: Radar or Klinger?
I liked both, Radar for his downhome friendliness and Klinger for his coniving as a clerk and how he was his own "gilligan" when it came to his schemes to get out. I always thought it was funny though how Radar was from the farm, but couldn't bear to see a lamb become dinner.

2. What is your favorite potterism?
"Let me guess Winchester, Will Rogers never met you, right? and
"Now there's a lesson for ya, never insult 7 men, when all you're packing's a sixgun"

5. Who do you prefer as commander, Henry Blake or Sherman Potter?
There wasn't much about Col Potter I didn't like. He was a strong leader who wasn't afraid to be "one of the guys" when it suited him. I thought LTC Blake was great, but there really wasn't anywhere to take that character after the first few seasons.

The liberal bent the show took over the years never bothered me much, I just chalked that up to Hollywood writers in general. I liked how the series moved forward season to season, with characters growing along with it. A lot of people argue whether the early episodes were funnier than the later ones. To me the "Frank Burns as resident fall guy" was getting old, so when Winchester came on the scene and became a worthy apponent, it added a lot.

My Trivia question: What 2 Actors had the same roll in the series as the Movie?

One would be Radar and the other one... Painless?

One would be Radar and the other one... Painless?

General Hammond.  He reprised his role in 3 episodes of the series.

Benjamin Franklin (Hawkeye) Pierce, through most of the run of the series was understood to be an only child, raised by his father. There's only one reference to a mother and sister in the series and that is the close of one of his letters to his dad when he says, "say hi to mother and sis". (or something like that).

Which would contradict other episodes where he told Winchester that his mother died when he was 12.  That was the Bowling Tournament, and Winchester replied "I had a father, you had a dad".

I don't like trivia questions. There are too many trivia quizzes on the Web already.

1. Who do you prefer as the company clerk: Radar or Klinger?

Radar. He was a geek, friendly, loyal, competent, and an underdog.

4. Name five famous people who made guest appearances on M*A*S*H.

Don't forget Groucho Marx. He didn't personally appear but there are several hints about him:

Alan Alda's character (Hawkeye) is based on Groucho Marx.

Hawkeye's "sun glasses" are of the famous Groucho type.

When the MASH made a movie about themselves, Hawkeye appeared as Groucho (and McIntyre as Harpo).

There was a Captain Spaulding who visited the camp. (Hurray!)

Many major characters were based on the Marx Brothers. After McIntyre (Harpo) left, Klinger became more Chico-ish as well.

5. Who do you prefer as commander, Henry Blake or Sherman Potter?

Blake. Potter was more competent, but Blake was one of us!

Joann Pflug played her in the movie, but Karen Phipp in the series.

John Ritter, Pat Morita, Mako, Robert Alda, Patrick Swayze

6. Who is the only reoccurring character to actually have fought in the Korean War?
Klinger
7. What is Pierce’s nickname and how did he get it?

Malibu Creek State Park (Southern Cal)

1. Who do you prefer as the company clerk: Radar or Klinger?
Radar.

2. What is your favorite potterism?
"Road apples!"

3. Who worked his way through med school selling burial plots?
Frank Burns, I think?

4. Name five famous people who made guest appearances on M*A*S*H.
Ron Howard, I know. Shoot, no one else comes to mind.

5. Who do you prefer as commander, Henry Blake or Sherman Potter?
Potter. Blake was too mushy.

6. Who is the only reoccurring character to actually have fought in the Korean War?
Robert Alda?

7. What is Pierce’s nickname and how did he get it?
Hawkeye...he loved the book "Last of the Mohicans".

8. What is the name of Pierce’s sister and mother?
I can't remember. This is fun.

9. Where are the outside scenes of M*A*S*H shot?
The Hollywood Hills.

10. Why was Spearchucker dropped from the show after season one?
No clue.

Surprising how much I can't remember. I used to watch it every day from 5-6, then again at 7:30 on a different channel On Monday nights, I'd watch it a fourth time, the new episode.
I always liked Sargeant Zale, too.

Another MASH-related show I liked in my youth was "Trapper John, MD", with Pernell Roberts as the now-middle-aged Trapper John Macintire practicing in San Francisco as a hospital resident.
They purposely avoided any MASH references, to their credit, I suppose, but I think it would have been cool to have, say, Larry Linville come on as an ill or injured Frank Burns, perhaps visiting Frisco on vacation or for a convention.
It might have been interesting to see how they'd have them interact all those years later.

I agree; that was what Larry Gelbart wanted to do, though, he didn't want to simply replace Burns with another Doofus. So, he made Winchester his own man; a gifted surgeon, an intelligent debater and quipster to match wits with Hawkeye and BJ (by that time), and a capable prankster, too, when such a need arose.
Winchester was, I feel, a much more well-rounded character to begin with than they ever allowed Burns to become. No wonder Linville quit.

When I was in the states, my wife and I would watch it everynight on Fox at 10, and I think it came on another channel earlier in the day, but I can't remember which. Now we have the DVDs! (missing the last three seasons however)

I always liked Sargeant Zale, too.

Me too, I like what they did with the Klinger/Zale rivalry, especially when they punched out Burns! ha ha ha

I have heard of this "spin-off" as well as AfterM*A*S*H, but have not seen any of them!

Yeah, I read they is why LL quit, he felt he had taken the character as far as he could. I love the Winchester character, he often one-ups Hawkeye and BJ, but also has a very humane and caring side to him.
I feel that did the same thing with Trapper, they did not replace him with a clone. BJ was a family man, faithful to his wife, more religious, more clean cut and innocent, yet a jokster deluxe! Love him...

by the way, what does "BJ" stand for? Anyone?
BJ was named for his parents... Bea and Jay Hunnicutt.

I've noticed one glaring omission though, and he's one of my favorite side characters...

Col. Flagg!

Give the man some props ppl!

1. Who do you prefer as the company clerk: Radar or Klinger?

2. What is your favorite potterism?I can't think of one that has already been mentioned, but I like "Why are you pissing on my charcoal?"
3. Who worked his way through med school selling burial plots?Don't know, but probably Burns.
4. Name five famous people who made guest appearances on M*A*S*H.Why has everyone only thought of males? Famous females were Shelley Long, Teri Garr, Blythe Danner (Gwyneth Paltrow's mother), Mariette Hartley and Joan Van Ark. More males: Robert Alda (Alan's father)and Mako.

It's been a while since I have seen that episode, I know he says that, but I think he was joking. I am leaning toward the answer "Whatever you want it to." I could definately be wrong on this one though.

Col. Flagg!

Yes, yes our good 'ole masochistic, paranoid Col. Good times!

Great point! Good job with the listing too!

What other character did Harry Morgan play on the show?
I believe that was Col. Steele (three "e"s, not all in a row), it I'm not wrong, it was at the beginning of the third season when he played this role.

I watched it all the time too. I pretty much quit watching it when my wife or kids could surf through it. After just a few seconds of watching I would identify the episode (complete with guest characters, jokes, puns, great one-liners, and gags played on each other). They are one of the few series I would go out and buy though.

No, he played an insane general. I can't remember the character's name.
