Another Developer Splinters From Blizzard

Hyboreal Games Breaks Rises from Blizzard North

Another independent studio has been created from former Blizzard North employees. The newest name in the independent market is Hyboreal Games and is founded by Michio Okamura, Eric Sexton, and Steven Woo whom all worked on the award winning Diablo series for Blizzard.

The company already has a project in the works calling it Project Starfall, but they claim that they "are not ready to release any information about our game, but stay tuned for upcoming announcements." The company will probably stick with what they know - the PC action RPG genre - due to their experience and success with Diablo.

Gotta figure that a lot of them just don't want to work on World of WarCraft forever. Blizzard has/had a lot of very creative/talented people. The thought of putting new stuff on the backburner to focus on the WoW cash cow probably just wasn't very interesting from a creative standpoint.

Yeah, WoW seems to be all Blizzard cares about now.  Forget Starcraft (Ghost doesn't count, it's a shooter with a Starcraft skin), forget new IP, forget even the Warcraft RTS franchise... WoW is a cash cow that pulls in way more money than it could ever spend.

Blizzard may want to rename itself to WoW Inc.

And for as much as I enjoy WoW, it'll has a very limited playability.  You hit lvl 60 and suddenly all you have to do are raid instances, which take hours and hours to play.  I hit 60 months ago now, and it looks like at least another half year or more before I get my hands on the expansion... not sure if I can keep interest for that long.  I don't think Blizzard will survive this new all-out focus on WoW.

Not to mention the fact that they aren't developing Starcraft: Ghost but instead over seeing the games development.

I don't think it will be the death of them but they mine as well milk it for awhile. Knowing Blizzard they have something up their sleeve that will be coming out soon, they do take extremeley long to develop their games (big reason why they are so good).

Around the time of Wow 3 we should  be seeing previews for Starcraft 2

Honestly outside of the WoW expansion and regular WoW updates, I doubt they do have anything else going on in-house. If they did, I don't think we'd be seeing the mass exodus of uber-talented Blizzard employees.

Most of the people who have left have claimed that they left because of Vivendi and how VU keeps trying to sell off VUGames.
