Help Lost Children Get FOUND: Need Skinners and Coders

Another development request

Since I got inquires about what I was doing over at Ning.com and other site without asking for help, I think that maybe I should open the doors and ask if anyone is willing to help.

Basically my idea is a Google and community web collabrative mash-up using Google Maps to help find lost children.

Here is where the system is:
http://childlostchildfound.ning.com/
The site is actually called Help Lost Children get FOUND but the url is Child Lost Child Found.org
(Please excuse the look of the site because I just set it up and ignore the "add a resturant" for that is not what the site is about... Ning allows you to copy apps and then change them to work for you)

What I want is people to be able to submit is the location and add an image (if there is one) of where the child was lost at (or kidnapped or ran away). Google Maps has some limitations but I think their are some work arounds.

I need people to help me with developing the site (and even with administration of the main site... if you know people in the police field, conselling and the like or you are familiar with dealing with kids... heck if your a parent and you want to help with writing articles and junk you can)... BASICALLY I need people who know how to code php, who know about databate, know what a server include is, know what those PHP program includes are, someone who can skin, someone... wait, let me write it this way.

I need (as mnany people who want to help) who can:

  • Somone who knows PHP and its fun atributes.
  • Someone who knows about Google Maps and its API's, parsing information from other sites (like the US goverment for uploading locations of child molestors)
  • Knows DesktopX and has coded and skinned it... VERY IMPORTANT!!! I am hoping to get someone to use that ActiveX and Google Maps with the widget and have the widget interact with the database with submitions and searches. I am also going to need a DX theme for kids (the more of them the better).
  • Someone familiar with Ning.com and its documents. (Also note that most helpers will probably need a Ning account to play with code for the site in order to figure out how it will merge with the Desktop app and DX Themes)
  • Web designer to help with graphics and junk.

I was also thinking about a WindowBlinds plug-in, but I wasn't sure of the appeal of having alerts about a new missing child on your WindowBlind frame border... if someone wants to do it and some one else wants to create a Windowblinds skin matching the site then great!

For those interested:
I would suggest signing up in Ning, check the box where it says that you want a developer account and take a look at the code for the Resturant Reviews with Maps and Bay Area Trails. Between these 2 apps, and the app called Developer Discussion (a message board), I think a great web application can be made. Helping parents keep their kids safe, finding lost children, run-aways, talking about after school programs, listing your congresional districts so you can write to your representatives, locations of Police stations, YMCA's, and town halls... testimonials, allowing some kids to speak their minds too, maybe some school representatives... a real resource site.

I really appriectate your help and look forward with working together.

Other development I'm doing...
WinCustomize Subscribers: You Want To Build Your Own Skin Site?
(No I didn't forget about you JourneyMan ^^Gabriel!!! I just haven't been able to work on the database for Skin This yet to allow other skinners to have a website using the same database)
Need a skinner who knows Windowblinds and DX for site related themes (I can't pay much, but I will try to make it worth your wild) If interested please email me:

That sounds very intersting. All though I'm absolutely drowing in work until mid desember I'd be very happy to help out in any way I can.

I do PHP, HTML, CSS, WScript (VBScript&JScript), C#, DX and also graphics.

I am starting with kids in the US and then moving outward East of NYC to Europe, Asia and so forth. So, yeah, it will include the entire planet eventually with language support too (if I can get someone to translate...) but... I figured I start with the US first to get a hold of what I am doing and get the site set up correctly.

Also, I should have mentioned that the project won't start in earnest until January 2006 anyway
LOL

Thanks thomassen for your help. I look forward to working with you and getting help on specific subjects for the FOUND website.

I think it might really save childrens lives one day.

uurhmm.... when I signed up it first told me that I couldn't use the nick I had entered, so I wnet back and chose a new nick. However, as I clicked next then I noticed, too late, that the checkbox for beta developers had gotten unchecked... any way I can change this now that I created the account?

It should be ok. you should get a developer account shortly (by the way., I don't own NING.com, I just have a project there - a few actually lol. questions about stuff like that can go to [email protected] They actually respond pretty quickly considering how busy they must be. it took me a month to get a developer account, now-a-days they pretty much give them out as soon as a few days.

I just want to thank everyone for wanting to help. I'll be contacting everyone shortly. I really think this can be a great projec and help many people and their children.
