Too bad many skip Mallard Filmore in the comics

The Mallard Filmore strip for Wednesday 11/23 should be given to every African American in the U.S.A.

I can't link directly to the comic, at least not that I can easily find, but it went like this....

Mallard says: The President's sudden spasm of conservatism has galvinized his opponents...

Followed to the right with a toon version of Teddy Kennedy saying these words: It's OBVIOUS that Bush only nominated Alito to respond to the wishes of those who ELECTED him!

With a punchline coming out of the other side where Kennedy goes on to say: Why would anyone do THAT?... He should take THEM for granted like we DEMOCRATS do with AFRICAN-AMERICANS...

That punchline is sad but true

The worst part is that when some have wised up and started to change for the better there, they've been slapped right back down by others. What do I mean? Well, look at Kwesi Mfume, former head of the NAACP. He started making overtures to the Bush administration, or at least to the GOP, Julian Bond and others in the organization smacked him down and disavowed any efforts he had made.

He, Bill Cosby, Michael Steele (MD Lt. Gov.) and others have tried to point out the stupidity here, and none have gotten any real reaction.

Until a large part of the Black / African American / Negro / whatever label is wished to be applied populace decides that it no longer wishes to be taken for granted, and even more importantly, cannot be taken for granted, things will not change. As the punchline says, Democrats can and will ignore the promises they may have made, and the needs of the constituency and voting block, and the other side will never pay any attention either because they see that block as an unchangable minority that won't affect their own electability.

It is sad that is the case, as much could be changed if people would make an effort.
