Pop-Ups/Trojan: Wincustomize

Just to let someone know, the last two days I've come here, I've gotten a pop-up box/page that IE's blocker is not blocking.

I actually got nailed with a Trojan Virus due to it, which luckily McAfee took care of, but came specifically from the pop-up, which is coming specifically from Wincustomize.

So you guys need to take care of this... whatever you have attached to your server/pages right now that's causing pop-ups which are actually containing a Trojan as well.

Can you please give us some more info.  Such as, what information is in the Popup, what virus did you get?  A screenshot would be helpful too.

And are you absolutely sure it wasn't already on your system?  And if so, why do you say that?

Also, what page or section of wincustomize.com were you on when this happened?

Clear your cache. They'll go away. Maybe.

I never get popups either, SDC WC Browser or EI6...maybe your AV is just picking on WC? On another note, if you run a rootkitrevealer on your system, you will see that there are two .exe in the Windowblinds folder that are suggestive of rootkit.

I generally use Firefox and take the standard precautions and have never seen a popup on WC or gotten a nasty from the site...ever!

Dunno, but I've heard of Trojans that can lay dormant on your system until an action or event triggers it....and maybe the popup enabled a dormant trojan already in your system? Just a thought.

This will be interesting. I used to pop-off my pop-ups here at wincustomize.

Yes, I have also seen the odd popup [actually, Maxthon listed it as a pop-under].

It happens rarely, and only after I've cleared cookies etc. Appears only on the main page [front]

It appears as a very small window, approx. 3" x 3" ..and contains nothing [unless something on my system is blocking the content].

I just close it and log in to the site, and it doesn't appear again. I have never been hit with a trojan/virus etc, by it.

Hope that helps a little, T-man.

Could someone clue in a dummy on this. Why does clearing my cache help with ad problems? Are the ads still getting downloaded to my pc even though I am a subscriber?

If I clean all my temp files and cookies and then log back on , I get the ads on first login...everytime. After closing the browser and reopening everything is OK. There is often a leftover (blank) taksbar button after closing my browser. Smae thing that happens when a pop up is left after I close my browser except with WC it is blank.

Yes, here also. In the lower, right corner

...thats the critter!

Night Train ...the site doesn't know whether you are a subscriber or not, until you sign in. If you have deleted your cookies before coming to the site, there is no cookie for WinCustomize to read ...hence you see the ads.

Once you have logged in, you have a new cookie. So if you close the browser and re-open again, the site is reading the cookie it placed on your computer ...and you dont see the ads.

If you have your browser set to purge all cookies upon closing, you'll always see those ads until login.

So if there ever was a mythical trojan in an ad, I am not safe from it.
Thats it! I am never going online again.
