Terrapin fans take over Hawaii in Maui tournament

(Mostly a note to Texas Wahine, who had been wondering for a while what a Terrapin, or at leas a Terrapin fan was).

Starting early next week, in the EA Sports Maui Invitation.

Some minor details here: UM Terps site link

ESPN Schedule is here: ESPN/ESPN2 Schedule

And finally, the official Tournament site: http://www.mauiinvitational.com/

Perhaps TW will have opportunity to catch the game locally and see what the fuss is all about. But then again, Monday is a work day for most, and 5PM eastern time is actually noon out in the Islands.

Tex, A terrapin is a turtle that was prized for it's shell and flavor when made into a soup. They were nearly like the passenger pigeon, (extinct) now they are just rabid fans with an easily tweaked defense reflex. Just say something bad about their team and listen to them howl. EG: Terpfan 1980

Terrapin?  Makes great soup, but plays lousy backetball and football.

Hehe. I just didn't make the connection between terrapin and terpfan. I'm clueless when it comes to sports and sports teams!

And I WISH I could go to Maui!!

Well, if you can't go directly, then you can at least turn on the TV and cheer for my team

And despite what Guy sez, they play hoops very well thank you!

Well, my beloved Terps fell to the Gonzaga Bulldogs yesterday. They hung tough through the first half, but couldn't pull it out in the end.

Young team, supposed to be much better by the end of the season than they are now, but still hate seeing them lose.

Hopefully they'll get back on track though and start another streak of 11 straight NCAA tourney appearances.

Gonzaga is ranked 7 I think.  Where do they put Maryland?

Maryland came in ranked 20th, so they weren't really expected to win. It was a good game, but the Terps fell behind in the second half and just couldn't pull it out.

You can see where they could be a much better team once they get a lot more playing time together, but for now they just haven't found their legs yet, and don't know what to expect out of each other, since a lot of the team hasn't played together that long, or before.

Adam Morrison looks so slow, doesn't play defense, but at the end of the game he's the leading scorer.

Gary Williams uses these early games to see the character of his teams so that by the time the ACC games start he'll have his team playing up to their capability. If that game was played in March Maryland would've won.

I hope to see another typical season from them. Finish in the upper tier in their league, advance far in the ACC tournament, and make a good showing in the Big Dance.

I'm a not an avid fan of Maryland, but I love any team that consistently give Duke fits.
