Recently, the 9th Circus court of appeals issued a ruling that said that Parents have no right to deny their children exposure to smut.  The actual case was not about smut, but Sex education, but to some conservative christians, it amounts to the same thing.

So in effect, while the 9th Circus can miraculously find a right to privacy in the Constitution when it comes to Abortion, and they can find that Parents are responsible for children, they cannot find a right for the parent to have control over what their child is exposed to!

No right to privacy!

It really amazes me how these liberal jurists minds work.  For the life of me, I can not fathom it!  I think in a logical way.   If a=b, unequivocally, and b=c, unequivocally, then a must equal c.  To suggest anything else would be to defy the laws of the universe.

Yet, the 9th Circus manages to do just that in their latest ruling.  privacy=Right.  Parental responsibility =Right.  Parental ability to protect Child <> Right.

It really is mind boggling to see the illogic of the liberal mindset.  yet that does not stop them from thinking they are mainstream, and I am extreme.  Because I believe in the rule of law, not the rule to make laws.

Amazing!  Simply Amazing.

Yeah, I have a REAL problem with this one. If a stranger were to go up to a child and ask them sexually explicit questions, it would be considered sexual abuse. How is this any different?

If some parents feel these surveys are constructive, sure, let their kids be exposed to it. I'm not into "prude" parenting, but I would be furious if either one of my children were forced to fill out a sexually explicit survey.

It's my right and prerogative as a parent to determine what is age-appropriate and what is in line with my beliefs as far as sexual education for my children goes.

Ugh. This is awful.

Thankfully, in our school district, I have the right to access the materials being taught, and to select alternative "health class" materials if I desire. So far, I haven't had issue with the materials chosen by the faculty, but it's nice to know that I have the choice of opting out when and if I see fit.

This is nuts.

Actually, a school division in this state did just that.  Asked the parents if they could ask the children. Did not seem to be a problem to anyone here. Those who did not like it, opted out.

So do we, but then we are not in the 9th Circus jurisdiction.

Like the other reponses, our school district makes all the sex ed materials available to the parents for review. My wife and I took the opportunity and found nothing that we had a problem with. To me, any honest educator should have no problem with parents' having input in any part of the education system. That might be the problem though, the "judges" on the 9th Circus Court wouldn't know honesty or integrity if it body slammed them.

hearing the questions that were asked on that particular survey, I was reminded of the pilot in Airplane! talking to the little boy. "Billy, do you like... gladiator movies?" I wonder how many sicko Kinsey types are floating around in the bureaucracy that makes these things...

I was not happy to hear about this decision...but what can you expect from the 9th Circus as Dr Guy so eloquently put it? Basically what they said to the parents was...sit down, shut up, pay your taxes and give us your children.

Here in my area we have issues with the Sex Ed class in the HS. They have been pushing flavored condemns enticing the kids to taste and experiment giving out prizes at the health fair if they will put one on a stick figure. As a result, we have formed a group called Alliance4children to combat this and so far the admin is listening. Changes are being made.

My children were taken out of the Health Classes in the HS here. Many other parents opted out for theirs as well. In my opinion as well as those of others, the woman teaching the sex-ed program is immoral..I didn't want what she was teaching for my kids. Many parents need to know this is a viable option...many around here didn't know that.

Never been to a Turkish prison, but I saw "Midnight Express" ;~D

I also spent a lot of time in the U.S. Army and the National Guards of 3 states. I have showered with hundreds of grown men, from lowly privates up to a few Colonels. No, I didn't hop to the position of attention, nor salute. In the shower, no one is wearing rank. ;~D

Do you really expect consistency or logic from the 9th Circus?

That is because you are the best kind of parent.  One who is involved and will teach your children.  Sadly, there are many not like you.  We did that with our own as well.  Not because we necessarily disagreed with the curriculm, but because we felt it was our responsibility to teach them about Sex.

I was blown away when my kids got to Jr High, and did not have to shower after PE!  We were not allowed out of the locker room until we did back in my day!

Believe it or not, I do hope.  Expect?  No. But I do hope.

Who made you Drs. Spock and Ruth rolled into one? I disagree with the quote; if there's a problem with the curriculum it should be changed of if the teacher is truly found immoral, fired.

The problem with the 9th is not that it is liberal but incapable of rational thinking. You see, it trapped itself in denying parents advice on a teenager's abortion. The court's reasoning should have been to prosecute those distributing the smut and permitting the parents to deny the child of his or her perverted proclivity, abortion notwithstanding.

This is an idealistic thought. I agree with you but firing teachers and changing curriculum is not an easy thing to do. In the meantime what do you do with your kid in the class that year? We did this already with an English teacher and the teacher was fired by year end. In the meantime our kids got quite an education with this teacher. One we were not expecting nor did we want for our children.

While we believed the teacher is immoral I don't believe the administration would think it was bad enough for them to fire said teacher. Only if the teacher commits a blatant imooral act would this be done. And she wasn't that bad....just bad enough that we didn't want her to influence our kids.

So what is wrong with a parent teaching a child, irregardless of the value of the curiculm?  I do not proclaim to be Spock or Ruth, but your comment smacks of 'the village' mentality.  As in I cannot instruct my children somehow?

We will very much disagree here!

The problem is that they did that and they are liberal.  Perhaps that is not a liberal incantation.  But as they advocate it, it falls on that side of the spectrum.  Perhaps if more denounced it as just stupid, left and right, then we could say they were just a bunch of jerks?
