A new studio has been launched in California dubbed, Trilogy Studios and is founded by a trio of industry veterans from Electronic Arts and Vivendi Universal. Rick Giolito and Mark Skaggs from EA and Michael Pole from Vivendi all have a string of successful titles to their credit including Medal of Honor, and Command & Conquer (before and after Westwood was purchased by EA) respectively and Pole managed VUG's worldwide development.
"Our goal is to create an episodic experience that is totally unexpected," said Giolito. "And not only are we evolving genres, but we are looking beyond current distribution systems as well. We fully intend to support downloadable content."
Trilogy Studios also announced that they have acquired $2.9 million in independent equity funding and David D. Jackson, Managing Director for Evanston Financial Strategies has joined the studios' board of directors. The firm also announced scant details about their first title, calling it a "first-person shooter/RPG combo," and stated that they would create titles for next-generation machines and the PC.
"Our team is made up of some of the most successful developers in the gaming industry with more than 100 years of combined experience and retail sales in excess of $4 billion," commented Mr. Pole. "The timing for a future-forward game development studio is now. The industry-wide shift toward independent financing coupled with the creative opportunities afforded by a platform transition will allow Trilogy to focus its energies on creating truly transformational next-generation product that can compete on a global scale."
