SEGA Joins Digital Distribution

SEGA Joins Valve & Stardock

SEGA has joined the digital distribution world, teaming up with Digital River, the company behind SEGA's online shop. The company will now also handle the sale of SEGA's games including Virtua Fighter, House of the Dead and Eastside Hockey Manager 2005 through SEGA.com.

"Online distribution presents growth opportunities for Sega and we are poised to bring leading-edge games into that channel," said Sega's Chris Olson.

"Digital River's oneNetwork will allow us to quickly and easily expose our games to a very large audience of consumers that shop on popular, high-traffic online retail sites."

Digital River CEO Joel Ronning added: "With more than 10 years of experience, we have developed e-commerce best practices to successfully grow an online business."

"By selling software through branded online stores and our oneNetwork online sales channel, our clients can maximize their market and revenue opportunities."

I really hope they release some of the harder to find sega games online. I would love to play radient silvergun on my pc , or even rez

Neat they have Hod 1 up, here's hope for rez *crosses fingers*

that's one of those games I've only heard about it, but never played it.  Seriously Sega could make a pretty nice amount of money just by allowing gamers to buy some their classic games at a reasonable price. If I could get Rez for $20 on the pc instead of 120 on the ps2, I'll do that in a heartbeat.

It would be nice if having bought Civ4 on DVD that I could now run it without the DVD in the drive the way the downloaded version must. But maybe it does on online verification instead?
