Beta 4 - Tech issue

Miniturization works not by reducing components as you'd expect, but by increasing the capacities of your hulls.

Assumably this is because lesser levels of miniturization would be lost to rounding if applied to the components directly. Whereas if you apply it to the hull you have a much larger number to work with and can more accurately apply the % adjustment.

So I'm still not clear on why my engines that were size 10 prior to miniaturization are now size 11?

Engines' sizes are also partly based on the hull size in addition to a base figure. So if the hull gets more room the engine will get bigger as well, which is a bug IMO (the % adjustment for hull size should be based on the standard capacity without miniturization techs, otherwise there is no point to miniturization if the engines just grow to match!).

I believe the actual base+percentage size was listed on the parts on earlier builds, but now it just shows the total value.

i think minaturzation should decrease the Module Sizes (in technical terms it should) but if the engines are fixed (So that it does not increase in size) then id be happy!

Look, it went from 10 to 11 because the relative hull size got bigger. (% of Hull). But what got miniturized in the engine? Nothing but the electronics/control systems. Most of an engine isn't able to be minuturized just because you've increased your basic minuturization (electronics). Engines should get smaller with Engine Advances, not miniturization. Under that line of reasoning, Engines increasing size is the correct response. Just as if you had to stick in Living Quarters into a ship's hull, that space would "get bigger" when the hull "got bigger" because you cannot minuturize the basic space that houses your human/alien body. Jah? Or am I lost in space on this?

The Modules in reallife are suspoed to get smaler (but don't) so i don't think the engines should get larger (it would make it HARDER to make Good Quality Ships!)

Lowa, please let go of that fixation! If your hull gets bigger you can fit more. If the modules get smaller you can fit more. It doesn't matter which changes, the effect on gameplay is the same! You can fit more!

True. And don't forget that you aren't annoyed with rounding on small integers if it is the hull that increases.

More, think a bit about size of computers for the latest 20 years: you can fill more in a same room. The room hasn't increased if exprimed in cubic meters. But it has changed if exprimed in number of computers that can fit in it.

I guess this is the problem: the hull size isn't exprimed in an absolute manner but in usable units. And the size of usable units is smaller when miniaturization increase, meaning that in the same volume, you can fill more units.

The irritating thing is how little either increase matters here. the difference between a large ship's capacity without miniaturization tech and a large with with all the minis is basically negligable.
