A few random thoughts

This is just a conglomeration of many of the thoughts I've had playing Beta 4. Beta 4 was my intro to GalCiv2, so some of these may have been mentioned before or suggested other places.

1) I can't load the game from the shortcut. The game works fine if I load the configuration program and launch the game from there, but loading it from the icon is an instant CTD.

2) Ocasionally I in GalCiv1 I could click something just before the GNN window would pop up and it would have 2 pop-up windows open at once. This seems to happen all the time in GalCiv2, and if you click elsewhere on the GUI the GNN window will pop back up to the front whenever you change menu items until you close the GNN Window properly. For instance if you click go to planet from the GNN window, it takes you to that planet, but as soon as you click somewhere to build something or change something on the planet the GNN window pops back up.

3) How do you see what ships are in orbit from the planet detail screen?? The GNN window will tell you about a ship being built, and you can click "Go to Planet" but it won't do anything to help you since there is no way to launch that ship from the window that opens up. Even when you exit the planetary detail screen, you still have to find that planet on the main map, and click on it to launch the ships. This pretty much negates the "Go to Planet" option from the GNN screen because you still have to find the planet on the main screen anyways. (and the problem from #2 will happen to you)

4) What is the range of the Starbases?? I once saw a faint glowing circle around a starbase that I assume is it's range of influence. I have not been able to reproduce that since. I now have a starbase loaded with +25 to trade and +20 to military and social production. That starbase is 2 squares away from a planet, yet the planetary detail screen shows "No Starbase Bonuses." Are starbase bonuses not working? Should I see those bonuses elsewhere? what am I missing?.

Otherwise it's a fantastic game and I'm having fun testing it out. I'll post more items that I find.

Added these to the list.  I can change it so that if you have a ship completed event selected, it takes you to the starport instead of the planet screen.

I also have the shortcut problem. If I launch the game from the Config, it works fine. If I launch it from the shortcut (which points at the GC2 exe), it crashes.

One further item I found last night.

If you have 2 constructors on the same square, you can't build a starbase. The game wants to give you all the fleet management menus for building or creating a fleet. I just wanted to build a starbase, and had to fly one of the ships a square away before the options to build would be shown.

Just a heads up on (4)... That blue circle you saw *is* the starbases range of influence. Any planets (or ships) within that circle will receive any applicable bonuses.

As of right now, the bonuses -should- work, despite the planet details UI not currently listing them.
