Is this guy for real?

Col. Lawrence Wilkerson Strikes Again

Colin Powell's former Chief of Staff Lawrence Wilkerson has been directing some rather disturbing accusations at the Bush administration. Wilkerson is a retired Army Colonel who has been Ppwell's right hand man since 1989.

Yesterday Wilkerson stated that he has uncovered a "visible audit trail" that traces prisoner abuse directly to the Vice President's office.

Here's a link to the interview he did on NPR yesterday. Link

A couple weeks ago Wilkerson made another claim that I don't really think surprised too many people.

From the Washington Post;

It didn't make the front page this morning, but it seems to me that it's a big deal when a former top administration official declares that a secret cabal led by the vice president has hijacked U.S. foreign policy, inveigled the president, condoned torture and crippled the ability of the government to respond to emergencies.

Full transcript of his talk can be read here - Link

Is anyone aware of an axe this guy has to grind? I think given his position, his claims can't be as easily dismissed as those made by other, more politically minded individuals...Dean, Reid, etc.

Good post. Now we investigate

Could the terms "former" & "NPR" be clues? Axe-grinding is a time-honored sport in DC - no matter where you turn, there's a knife pointed at your back. Nonetheless, bears reading. Thanks for the link.

I'm sorry, that link is to a partial transcript.

But here's a link to what appears to be a full video of the talk he gave. Link

He doesn't appear to be a very polished speaker, not real easy to watch...but there's some intriguing content in there.

Here's a pretty in depth story from The News Hour on Wilkerson, in which he goes into greater detail about his claims.
