Thompson Retracts $10,000 Charity Bid

'A Modest Proposal' a Joke

The Grand Theft Auto Mod Community has answered Jack Thompson's challenge to "create, manufacture, distribute, and sell a video game in 2006" that allows players to play the violent scenario he laid out in the open letter.

GTA Modders who call themselves "The Fighting Hellfish" have released Defamation of Character: A Jack Thompson Murder Simulator featuring none other than Jack Thompson as the disgruntled father he outlined in his design. Although not exactly what he wanted by any means Jack Thompson spoke on the new release by saying that he wouldn't speak on it?

"I'm not interested and won't be commenting on the mod. The satirical piece entitled 'A Modest Video Game Proposal' was intended to highlight the patent hypocrisy and recklessness exhibited by the video game industry's willingness to target cops, women, homosexuals, and other groups with some of their violent games. To be fair, though, you can't expect a bunch of gamers to understand the satire if they think that Jonathon Swift, the author of 'A Modest Proposal,' is the name of a new Nike running shoe... ...I will say this though, the 'video game community' (what's next, 'the necromancy community'?) surely seems exercised about someone who is a 'joke' and who is accomplishing nothing. You all seem rather bothered and worried about a nonentity. God is in this battle, and I am privileged to be a foot soldier. You all should be concerned, not about me, but about Him."

Well, apparently he now considers himself a foot soldier of God....

I won't say where the last place I heard that was. Let's just say it was on the news linked to a story about some bad people in Iraq....

Funniest part of all of this?  Since Jack didn't make good on his word... Tycho & Gabe of Penny Arcade donated $10,000 to the Entertainment Software Assoc. Foundation... IN JACK'S NAME!

He's gonna be LIVID when he finds out about that.
