What's the count on votes (in your estimation)

Place your bets here. Miers does or does not get confirmed?

Regardless of which you choose, what is the vote count (unless you want to step out on the limb and say she'll withdraw or have her nomination withdrawn)?

My own prediction - Confirmed 58 - 42. Reid and a few others jump over and provide enough votes to make up for conservatives that abandon the ship.

I think you overestimate how trustworthy she appears to the religious right.

I would guess she's 'closer to home' with the religious right then Roberts, wouldn't you agree?

While no Senate Republicans have publicly opposed her nomination, the reaction among the chamber's conservatives has been mostly tepid.

A passage from the link you (Bakerstreet) provided in your post #21.

This goes back to my point.

There's been a lot of posturing and talk about dissatisfaction with Miers but no substantial commitment made by any to oppose this nominee. They'll all give a good show, then it's "Hello!" to our new Supreme Court Justice.

If she does not withdraw before the hearings she will be confirmed.
If, however, she does withdraw ( the Baker Plan ) I foresee a Ultra Conservative Black Female on the horizon.........

But I think that Uber-race card will be played on the next appointment.

MM sets odd at: 3 to 1 no comfirmation.

5 to 4 she withdraws.

And in actual fact, Baker said she would get to the hearings.   She never got that far.

I am going to love this.  Stay tuned!

It's okay, you don't owe me a bet, or need to eat anything, just seeing me being right and you being wrong is plenty.

I've been privy to the pleasure of such simple satisfaction - just not this time.
