Discouraged

I have seen some posts on how things are 'rated' and how some submissions get 'lost or burried'. Up til now, I haven't had a problem with this, so what would I have to say, right?

Mostly, I am just happy when something of mine gets approved, and don't concern myself with the rating or where it ends up. But..

My most recent wallpaper started out with a 5 star rating them dropped to 3 in the same day...and there are NO comments. That's just plain frustrating. And it seems to be kinda lost in the shuffle and isn't even listed in the Newest Gallery.

Getting lost I understand. I know that the staff is very busy.

But the ratings thing. I don't care what the rating is, I just would like to know WHY it got that rating. And NOT so I can argue it, I just really want the opinion so I know what I am doing right or wrong.

I have posted about this a few times in other peoples threads, and it may be getting old from me, or just in general, but PLEASE.....leave a comment ..wether you can 'rate' the work or not, but especially if your one of the ones who passes out those stars.

I'm begging.

PLEEEEEEEEEZZZZZEEEE!

I believe that your concern is just. There have been many discussions where some suggested that if you rate, you should comment, but you can't make people comment so your plea may fall on the deaf ears of some and may be heeded by others. Don't let it prevent you from creating, though. That comes from your heart and cannot be touched by ratings.

What do you want to hear?
Do you want me to comment on how it looks as a picture?
Or how it may (or not) work me personally as wallpaper?

Bear in mind there is a difference.
Some people may not comment because others will rag on them if you've got a bunch of comments about how much they like it and then they're putting in something about "it's pretty, but sucks as wallpaper if you use icons, no room for them without conflicting contrast".

ya know?

For me there's nothing more off putting on a wallpaper than words. It's a big no, and probably explains why people don't rate it highly. Plus it has a lot of blank space.

As for ratings, it has never been 5 stars, or anywhere near  It started 5/10, that is 2 1/2 stars.

I understand what you're saying, Sir Bichur.

After reading a lot of the forums on here and 'comments', I don't think too many people are afraid to leave themselves open for some 'ragging'. And I wouldn't post my work where I would be open to it, good or bad, if I couldn't handle a little ragging.

I guess this is just a 'medium' I am trying to get a handle on and would like 'some' feedback. Other than that, without sounding like I am being a smart-ass, wouldn't YOU want to know whay something you posted dropped so quickly in one day, or why it dropped at all? I mean, if there is 'genuinly' something wrong with it, as a skinner, you would want to know so you could fix it, or avoid it the next time, right?

I'm not 'fishing' for attention or compliments. It's always nice to know when something is appreciated or liked. I just want to know, especially when someone is gonna knock the rating down, 'why'? Even if it's only because they 'hate that color' or whatever. At least they took the time to explain. Which, to me, would balance out the time I took to creat it and post it, and the time they took to push a key and add or subtract stars.

I just want to point out, I'm not angry or anyhting, and I won't harp on this. I like this site and like the 'challenge' it gives me in trying to be creative. I'm just dissapointed. But I'll get over it.

Well, my last creation named: Darkness (logon), start with a rate of 5 points, then i add a comment that if any one please rate it, so then i get 6 points..., not too much but well, something is something...

WOM wonders if he should take the time to go and look these 2 pic's up. Links would have been nice but I've got plenty of time.

I'm all confuzzled and embaressed now. Almost deleted this thread. I'm not trying to argue the amount of stars or even argue the reason I got the rating. I just would like to know why for my own reference, not to debate it or complain about it.

I guess I am just one of those people that wants to know 'why' all the time.

I realize this is how it is. It's all good. I was just wishing out loud.

Yes! And if I dare speak for a lot of others, I think that's what the people who have had this issue are asking for.

It would be nice if there was a requirement that when you submit anything to the site, you must first earn the right to do so by reviewing others. Giving real critique and having the form in place to aid in that.

I know the biggest buzz in getting involved in a community like this is finding out what people think of your creative effort. It's a primal need we have and there is nothing wrong with it. Sadly, more people want to show than critique and anything that redresses that balance I'd be in favour of.
