Christian Debate: Self Pleasure

This is something that people I know are not sure of

I think that masturbation is a sin, mainly because that Catholicism teaches it is a sin, giving Bible passages that say wasting your seed is bad, and sex should be shared. I think a lot of people believe it is OK. Im just wondering what others thought on this.

Please comment, we will have a debate on it. Masturbation doesn't have to be the whole topic, just a subtopic. You can talk about any self pleasure. Please Resond.

Masturbation (A) is performed by an overwhelmingly huge majority of the human race, (B) relieves sexual tension without risk of pregnancy or disease, (C) is nowhere explicitly forbidden by the Bible, and (D) hurts absolutely no one.

It should be encouraged.

As my bulbous friend so eloquently announced, masturbation is quite normal in us upright creatures. And it is only masturbation if you do it to yourself.

Bulbous, read Genesis 38:6-12. What do you think that means? To me it means that by masturbating I am wasting my seed for personal pleasure, which is very selfish of myself. Since I am not married and should not have sex before marriage, I should keepy my snake in it's cage. That is what it means to me.

It seems to mean the when Onan was having sex, not self-gratification, with his brother’s widow he did not ejaculate in her but out of her and wasted the seed. Since he was not masturbating, it could mean that he could have had a child but did not. The “wasted seed” could be the potential child, not the act of self-gratification.

Maybe the Bible dont tell a lot about it, but the central part of Catholic Rules about sex talks about the correct use of Sex.

Why sex exists? Not exactly for pleasure, see the animals making copulation, they do it not exactly for pleasure, after the sexual contact, they have soon cubs and these animals survive more time.

The central cause of sex is to make sons, "Be prolific and multiplicate", said in one Genesis phrase.

So, the sex for pleasure is not correct, and more incorrect when the seed is used for other reasons... is not sense to think about seminal liquids in other places than the femenine sexual part fecunding an ovum and making a new kid... that is the Catholic Church teached me...

But, i am thinking other way... maybe for my religion and for some moral dogmas for me is not correct but is really pleasure, and as someone said upper, you dont hurt nobody, not risk to make a kid....

It's quite clear that Onan is pulling out during sexual intercourse, not masturbating.

Maybe God needs a few anatomy and physiology lessons; healthy males generate sperm by the millions constantly. There is no "wasting" it. The supply is always being replenished. Women have a fixed supply of eggs, but men are making more sperm every second of their lives once puberty comes.

As usual, the Catholic Church is about 500 years behind the times. Everyone masturbates. If more priests masturbated (or married...), they wouldn't have to go after little boys.

Why sex exists? Not exactly for pleasure

Then why is it pleasurable? A flaw in God's design?? (Dolphins have sex for pleasure also.)

Look deeper for a definition of sin, beyond a historical book of fables.

No where in the Bible does it say it's a sin. Lusting is a sin? I think that if you're lusting it's a sin... if you can masterbate w/out lusting, i suppose it's fine. I think after you're married you should be looking for sexual fulfillment in your spouse. I don't think it's a sin after your married, but I don't think it's a good thing to get into the habit of doing.

Thats just it.. By masturbating it usually brings fantasty images, etc, etc. How can you masturbate without thinking of a woman? Impossible? I think so. In Mathew 5:28, God tells us to look at a women in lust already commits adultery. In 1 Corinthians Chapter 6:19-20 tells us that our Body is a Holy Temple, and everything we do should be to glorify God. So is being lustful a good way to glorify God? In Proverbs 12:11, it is said that someone who chases fantasy lacks judgement. Also in 1 Corinthians, 6:12, Paul asks us to live in reality , not in fantasy.

Please Respond,

Bulbous, you said in your letter A that it is done by most of the human race. How is that a Christian based support? Christians are rebels who fight the human evils. A lot of people sin, but should that support our resolve to sin? People kill people. Should we kill people?

You must all be youngsters.

Did you know that the language roots of prayer and praise were precisely the same. Some scholars of mythology, anthropologists, psychologists, and other scientists more interested in the mystery of living existence than in mastery of dead words contend that the central heart of creation lives inside of all sexual expression. "Fucking is the life force," is how I've put it before, and masturbation is just one sort of practice. To condemn it is about as sensible as saying basketball players shouldn't shoot foul shots by themselves.

I've written an essay, "Faith, Bad Faith, and the Catholic Church, or, How I Masturbated My Way to Mental Health." You all should read it. Good luck, and keep praying and playing, hard, soft, together, apart. Just keep it up and keep it going!

I am a Christian, and I am not going to follow mythological creatures and gods in their sexual exploits. Please show me the articles that these scientists wrote. I would be very interested to see who they are.
