Creator Closes Doors

The creators of the Myst adventure franchise have announced that they are closing their doors. Myst, the game that helped proliferate the CD-ROM format and sold over 12 million units, will still see its final sequel, Myst V: End of Ages, come out on September 20th. The news was dropped via Grey Dragon's Blog and was followed up by postings on Uruobsession.com. Cyan blamed the closing on lack of financial support but Rand Miller and Tony Fryman will remain on board in case any funding can be found, although the Cyan Closing FAQ says that is "unlikely."

I never got into the Myst series myself. I remember that when I bought it, the game wouldn't run on my PC and that was that.    Still it's a pity that one of the best-selling and longest running franchise developers in the PC gaming industry can't find funding or make ends meet.

Tis a sad day indeed, I am just happy that they were able to finish what they started. Just goes to show that limiting yourself to one genre, let alone one franchise may NOT be the best idea.

I liked the overall concept of the myst games, but I could never ever figure out the puzzles. Espically in Uru.

not mine, I remember getting myst I think it was around 94 or 95, after I finally got a computer in 94. I also own the 3 myst books that were released, they were pretty good.
