Rethink engines

hey i dont know if it would be too late to implement this but this is just my thought

so far in the gal civ2 betas putting on an engine on any type of ship or hull will make that ship move forward a set number of spaces reguardless if it is a huge cargo hull or a tiny fighter

this dosnt make sense to me because since you can fit more engines on a huge cargo hull than on a fighter you will have your cargo hulls going faster than your small fighters which really dosnt make sense cause small ships are the ones that are supposed to go faster since the engines dont have to move as much

for balancing the small vrs large hulls i think that lets just say you put an engine on a fighter instead of it going only 1 extra space since it is smaller and thus lighter and easier to move you should have it go 3 or 4 extra spaces

now if you put the same engine on a cargo hull it would only go 1 extra space since it is bigger and would require more energy and engines to move

so for certain hull types engines should affect it in certain ways so that you can have nimble fighters with little firepower and great mobility and huge lumbering superships with massive firepower but little movement and of couse all the medium ships in between

plus this string had some good ideas on engine design as well

any thoughts?

The amount of space engines require increases based on the size of the hull to take into account mass.

I more consurned with the fact of having 3 different types of engines does the same, hyperdrives that should be advenced technology atually less usefull becouse they are bigger .

Yes but even so its hard to equip a small hull with a basic weapon and a basic sheild (maybe i should try minaturazation) and the most advanced engine also why is it that as you advance engines and they become cheaper? they should be slightly faster more expensive and smaller meaning more efficeny hyperdrive is the first engine devolped in galciv2+! that you can use indirectly or directly it was revoltionary it could Literly "tear apart space".

Some advances in real life are decreases of size, weight, cost, etc.. Just look at computers, for instance. Not only have they become smaller and cheaper, but faster and more powerful. The same is true of the engines that power our jet liners (ok, maybe some of them are bigger, but they use fewer of them). So why should it be so unbelievable in a game?

I find that a flaw too when you get a small ship and you have to choose between defense or guns

Its not unbelievable, but its also not fun. If the best engine is always the newest one, then why bother having a list of engines to choose from in the ship design screen? You might as well replace it with a +/- control to choose how many engines you want on the hull.

I think minaturazation is a necasary research for fighters... but seriosuly like engines weapons systems also should take account for the hull like small fighters get a edge cos there so weak.. also ive noticed that the bulit-in designs cheat
like they get more than what the hull can hold... so it does not seem fair you know
