Widget Problem

Loading To-Do List...

I'm having this small but annoying problem. Since I started using a To-Do list widget Link I have the message "Loading To-Do list..." on the top of my screen. At first I had this widget to start with windows but since the problem started I've changed that and it's not loading with windows anymore. the message still shows up.
I've tried the following:
- turning the "Run automatically when Windows starts " option OFF
- checking the windows startup options (msconfig) to make sure it's not there
- loading the widget and then closing it
- reeboting
no success the problem remains.
I also tried to change my theme with Theme Manager and it worked, the message was gone. until the
next reebot...
Any ideas how to solve this?
thanks for any help

selfdestruct27,

You could try the following:

- Unload DesktopX and all widgets
- Hit Shift+Ctrl+Esc to invoke Task Manager
- Look in processes to see if any widget.exe files are running, if so - right-click the entry and select End Process
- Clear the DesktopX cache by deleting the DesktopX folder found in "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Stardock" folder.

For information on how to clear cache, you can see my mini tutorial here Link

Note - clearing the cache will also force DesktopX to load with the default settings, so any unsaved theme will be deleted (previously saved themes will still be available for loading).

Reboot to test for message.

When I have trouble with a widget..which is usually that I "lose" them below the task bar..first thing i try is to open desktopX welcome screen , Click on load widgets..Click on options..view widget cache...then find that widgets cache folder and delete it. That will delete that one Widgets settings and then you start over fresh and open the Widget again from the widget folder. It should be as it was when you first downloaded it. If you clear the whole widget cache..all widgets will lose any settings you gave them. Its easier to just go delete that one widgets cache. Try this first and see if it resets it.

I turned out to be in a dead end since I don't understand essences of this problem absolutely. When I developed ToDo I expected that not of all future users will start it with DesktopX. So I made it as a stand alone program (gadget). Since Todo is a gadget, it doesn't use widget cache folder and doesn't require the presence of DesktopX or Widget Menager for its start. So it's necessary to search the reason of occurring in some other place.
I have three computers (2 notebooks and big graphic workstation) and I have tested this object everywhere previously sends it to the Wincustomize. I have not found not united errors or problems like this during the testing (in spite of the fact that computers work with the miscellaneous systems but Stardock programs was installed only on one)...
Having read your message I solved to repeat all tests anew today and has not found any errors again. May be some defensive program on you computer (Outpost Firewall for example) is blocks gadget's functions? The similar situation was appeared beside me, when I tried to start System Meters gadget on my workstation. Firewall completely blocked all gadgets functions until I have not changed its main settings.
This is all that I can report you at the present. Excuse me please but I didn't expect that such problem will can appear.

Problem solved
I followed Corky_O instructions and the problem is gone.
I first searched for the widgets cache folder and could not find it (this was before Vad_M message). Now I know why I could not find it. Then I unloaded desktopX and the message was gone. I deleted just the "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Stardock\DesktopX" folder and reboot. The message is gone.
Vad_M: I have tried the widget again and everything is ok.
Thank you all.

Yahoo! Big Stone fell out from my heart now. I am pleased that all ended so well.
Mr. Corky_O was absolutely rights. I used his advice and has found "gadget cashe". This is why any ToDo traces was not find in the "widget cashe" folder. Not in vain wise people say: age live - an age to learn...
Thanks. I know now where gadgets hide their little "secrets".
