CP Plays Clement's Two-Tier Comments Prominently

"Mr. Clement took a similar tack, explicitly targeting Ms. Stronach for a recent interview in which she waffled on whether she might be willing to consider two-tier health care, in which those who could afford it would be able to opt out of the public medicare system."

"That's the kind of indecision the party can't afford, said Mr. Clement. 'We will not have a second chance to make a first impression on Canadian voters.'"

Stephen Harper's far more bland comments got top billing; probably just 'cause he's the front runner.

All in all, a very good showing for Tony Clement. He clearly won the debate. I'd give him a strong B on the big media moment scale for his attacks on Stronach. (Though I think I missed a couple of other good moments while turning down the volume to avoid Belinda Stronach's gratingly artificial vocal rythmes.)

More and more, I'm convinced Clement is the only choice the new party has to truly be new. Harper's baggage is obvious, but Stronach is turning out to be the worst of both worlds - a central Canadian (convincing the old Reformers they've lost the control they were trying to get by leaving the Tories in the first place) with politics that come from the old Reform tradition (thereby convincing the Tories there was no merger at all, that it was a takeover).
