Boot into Safe Mode and delete it

Delete the contents in C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Stardock\DesktopX\WidgetCache

boot in safe mode, then press Ctrl+Alt+Del which should bring up the task manager, the go to processes and find the filename you're after, click on it, then press end proccess.

this should enable you to delete the shortcut from your desktop.

Good Luck!!

That is the problem......re-install DX and delete the widget with it, then you can un-install DX.

but i did a bit of research reading forums with the same error message which led me to download this software called - mst IsUsedBy - and found that my explorer.exe has a hold on it....now how can i possibly get my eplorer.exe to leg go of my file ?

Is it working as the recyle bin? If it is, then you have somehow put the Windows recycle bin (with the widget icon) back on the desktop. Install Tweakui and remove it. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

no is not..i went back to the page where i found the widget , by the way is called glassy recycle bin it comes with two of them..now i was under the impression that i had to change the file type .zip to .exe when i just noticed it came like that inside the zip file itself . so i think the problem is both small and big glassy recycle bin are stuck together in one .exe file which i doubble clicked..and now stuck on my desk top for life only an idiot huh ! well any solutions to this ?

did you try emailing support?

You could try killing explorer.exe in task manager...then delete the recycle bin....though that'd have to be via a command prompt....just a theory....Yrag is the one to listen to on this....

If you are running Windows XP, you can try these two procedures (you may need the installation disc for #1) -

1 - Start > Run > type: cmd > hit Enter > at command prompt type: cd C:\ > hit Enter > at C:\ command prompt, type: sfc /scannow > hit Enter.

This will run the System File Checker to look for any corrupted system files, and will attempt to repair them from DLLcache.

2 - use the instructions here Link to perform a Clean Boot (note - do not clear the check box for "Load System Services", because this will delete all your System Restore points).

After a successful clean boot, you can try removing the Widgets - then go to Start > Run > type: msconfig > hit Enter > select Normal Startup on the General tab > click Apply > reboot computer.

These are just a couple of possibles, and I defer to both Jafo and Yraq as they are both beyond my skill level.

This is like the bunny.....still goin'........

All suggestions above are very good. The "System Restore" is particularly attractive.

Failing that, my guess is it's XP's built in zip holding it. You can try this to find out.

Disable Built-In Zip Support

Start Menu.
Run
When the Run dialog box comes up, enter the following in the Open field : regsvr32 /u %windir%\system32\zipfldr.dll
After typing that in, left click once on OK. This will remove the built-in zip support for your computer.
Restart your computer.

Try to delete file

To re-enable Built-In Zip Support

Start Menu.
Run
When the Run dialog box comes up, enter the following in the Open field : regsvr32 %windir%\system32\zipfldr.dll
After typing that in, left click once on OK. This will re-enable the built-in zip support for your computer.
Restart your computer.

that didn't work.... -my guess is it's XP's built in zip holding it.!!- this file is not in a zip format but an .exe sitting on my desk top and i think explorer.exe its holding on to it ...... along with other programs i need open to run windows correctly

OK...moving down the list.......

Do this only if you are comfortable and familiar with the Windows Registry. If you aren't, then don't do it.

Open Regedit (C:\Windows). Export the entire Registry to a temp folder as a backup. Using the search option, type in the file name on your Desktop. Click find and delete each entry that comes up. F3 will continue search until it's complete (do not stop until it tells you it's done). Exit Regedit and re-boot into safe mode. Delete the file if it's still there. If your machine will not boot or something else goes wrong, then restore the exported file you created.

Oh, btw.....you made that zip an exe...remember???. You may very well be looking for both in the Registry.
