nice, but you don't put a link to your creations in the forums for the sake of it

Yeah alright, I won't anymore...

But if you do like my work and want to see more of it, I guess you can just visit my own website called DPmad. Link

Well I have just added my newest creation to WinCustomize, I call it h3ll. Let me know what you all think!

I guess you forgot about this statement you made. The threads are not for linking people to your walls or any other skins. It is for problems and discussions.

Now I can read it!

Reading the responses to post, I think this is a good example of what Frogboy was talking about.

My mother taught me if I didn't have anything nice to say, to keep my fat, condesending trap shut.

pHr0sT, i love your wallpapers and can't wait to see more. Thanks!

Please ...don't tell me you're going to trawl the site and dig up old threads to "out" people you think are not doing the right thing? [This one's approximately 6 months old]

Poor form, if you ask me ...and a bad idea, sorry.

I think just about every member of this site has read Frogboy's thread by now, and have read and understood his points....

I really don't see the need for this type of "policing" ...just let people read, comprehend, and implement their own interpretation of what Frogboy said. No need to embarrass people into "doing the right thing".

And please, don't take this as chastisement ...just letting you know I personally don't think its a good idea, taking this route.

Merry Christmas

Well put Erik...

I have read all of Frogboy's thread and everyone's responses...

I have always tried to help someone out if I could and I have also not been very enthusiastic to someone that brags about stealing Stardock products that I pay for and then they look for help in the Forum. I find posts that were buried 4 pages down with 0 replies to a newbies question, I bump them up if I can't answer them.

I will not be a robotic goody 2shoes. Its just not me.

and....Merry Christmas Erik

Thank you for reinforcing my point.  Forgive me; I am a worm.

I believe you might be missing the point of your point might have been better served by using a more recent post than one 18 months old. You know, one from no later than 2006 (since that was the year Brad is mentioning).

Jack_Spade; -pHr0sT- was given info, first that we can't see his skins when they are awaiting moderation, then he was informed that it is bad form to use the forums to link people to his walls. He was told this politely, his response was " Yeah alright, I won't anymore" which a month later although he did not start a new thread he did, linking to his new wall.

Three and a half years you have been a member and this is what you dig up as an example of what you think Brad meant. There was nothing at all wrong with anything in this thread until you tried to make an example of it.

I could lay the challenge to find ONE negative post from me, in the more than three years I've been here [Unless of course you describe berating someone for blatant theft, or warez'ing, or deliberate baiting/flaming, or just outright nastiness ~as negative] - [I don't], but that's just dragging this silly thing on... It's Christmas, which is a time for niceties...

I've always considered myself as polite, courteous and helpful. [The way I was raised. Might be a little 'old school' these days ]

My initial post stands, Jack ..I'll still disagree with this method of policing a forum. I appreciate that you might have had the best intentions when you posted, but as you see from the responses ~thats not the way it got percieved.

A small lesson to be gained from this thread is:

Re-read what you've just written a couple of times before you hit that 'post' button ....will what you just wrote be perceived the way you intended?

Mr.Spade why apologize for what you are? Worm is, as worm does...

Let me just say first that, I am a consumer. I have given Stardock my fair share of money and used their products with much enjoyment. I've never attempted to create any type of skin, wallpaper or the such. I am cursed with perfectionism and do well to just draw a simple circle. I enjoy perusing the artwork here and apologize for not being able to contribute.

I have been a fan of -pHr0sT-'s artwork. Unfortunately, not many of his creations are shown. In a mad fit of boredom, I started viewing his profile and began to read his postings, as I sometimes do with my regular favorites. Having just read the post from Brad, I was stricken with a "yes, exactly!" moment when I came to this post.

It is with most sincere regret that I now realize the age of this posting. In my initial post, I regret my harsh adjectives, and for that I apologize to those that took offense. I stepped over my own line. Mean people suck, and I got sucked in. I do, however, stand behind my intent.

This young man, a victim of normal adolescent egocentrism, was obviously excited at his ability to create and wanted to share it with everyone. Instead of nurturing that ability, people chose to point out his lack of understanding of some unwritten rule of forum posting. Even so, he took the high road and brushed of the derogatory statements. I should have followed his example.

Erk.: You are quite right. I acted rashly in an emotional state. I do not trawl nor troll. I posted because I felt connected to this tread, as I am a fan of phrost's work, and thus felt inclined to respond. I guess my point is that, the people for whom Brad's critique of the forums was intended are too blinded by their arrogance to see that it is directed towards them. Thank you for your words, know that I will learn from them...and rest assured; after this, I will think out loud no more.

Fairyy~:
I have also not been very enthusiastic to someone that brags about stealing Stardock products that I pay for and then they look for help in the Forum.

I'm sure this is not directed towards me, but I wish you would make that clear, if you would.

Cavan1:

The fact that you see nothing wrong with this thread is my point. You were not helpful. At best you were impersonal. I can not know your intent, but my perception is that of fraternal chastisement of an outsider. Yours and clwoods' exchange above is the type of "good 'ol boys" mentality that angers me. That said, you are a masterful artist and I am in awe of your ability.

Skinhit:
Mr.Spade why apologize for what you are? Worm is, as worm does...

I apologize to you to ensure the inflation of your elitist ego, lest it should fall and kill us all. You, too, are a talented artist...but I'm sure you already know that.

After exiting the military, I worked in corrections for 10 years. During that time, I realized that living by the Golden Rule was kind of like communism: looks good on paper; doesn't apply too well. Instead, my philosophy in life is to treat others as they treat me. Many experts say humans are social creatures. I cannot totally agree. Such is my fate. As to this tread, I make no promises, but I do so solemnly swear, I will refrain from posting on the forums in the future.

Happy Chrismahannakwanzika to all.

There is no rule, unwritten or otherwise. If you look at the messageboard channels, you will see there is one called New Releases...

Fuzzy...to be fair I don't think that one even existed when this thread was posted [but I could be wrong]...

Jack_Spade .... this really is a poor example [if that's its intent] of Frogboy's concerns about elitism and unfriendliness on the forums.

It being a poor example does not refute the existence of very good examples elsewhere [in time and place], and particularly its being archaic places it as an example of what WAS, not arguably what IS [or may be].

Hunting around in old threads can be quite enlightening, however....

But the same thing happens today, in one guise or another. Members deciding what is and isn't acceptable despite no formal rule - that is what Frogboy was talking about. The concept is relevant. New members pounced on, never to be seen again.

For what it's worth the same thing happened to me when I joined. I said a few things as a n00b and got chastized by the 'old guard'. Fortunately, being from Yorkshire, I was thick skinned enough to ignore them and stamp my views on them... Then I started doing the same, till I realized I was becoming the very thing I hated. I changed and moved on. The rest is history as they say

It's just a shame we are in the wrong thread...

I have a hatchet over here that needs a decent burial ....care to lend a hand?

I will refrain from posting on the forums in the future.

...we can bury this comment along with the hatchet. No need to impose self-exile on yourself from the forums over something that was simply emotional foggery [my term ]

..indeed!
