Good news from Iraq, but do you even look?

I have asked our resident leftists many times if they take the time to read and research the good things coming from Iraq. Not one has answered the question.

Many of the people here make the standard accusations of how things are going in Iraq. I believe they base their opinions on two things, one is the media who is against the war and our troops, and the second is the usual rhetoric that is on left wing websites.

There is a person here who continually posts good news about Iraq, and how Iraqi troops are taking more responsibility. I also notice that these posts usually go with nobody commenting on them. That's interesting consider people here usually have a lot to say about Iraq, just not the good news I guess.

Finding out the truth about what is going on in Iraq is hard. The MSM doesn't cover it, so it's up to people like this to bring us the real things happening. I ask again, do you take the time to read the good news?

I recommend everybody research the good things going on in Iraq.

I consider myself lefist, and while I don't google "good things in Iraq," we have a weekly subscription to Army Times, which gives a very balanced view of accomplishments and challenges in Iraq.

ShadowWar has posted many great news stories, but I think that generally they are not responded to not because they feature good news, but because there's not much to add and nothing to debate.

When I read them (sometimes there are far too many posted and I don't have time to read all of them), I think (and sometimes post), "Wow. That's great."

It's not neccessarily apathy, but rather the articles stand alone and don't really require input.

While I question the motivations for the war in Iraq as well as the timing, I am very proud of our Soldiers, and I enjoy reading news reports that cover our success. (I actually have a photo blog covering a few of the 25thID's projects in Iraq (and several other patriotic/military-themed blogs, many of which are currently "hidden"))

There is always the "yeah, they built a school for children or they fixed the sewage problem in the city, but..." sentiment, which does have validity. I think the best view to take is a balanced, realistic one:

We have tragic setbacks and we have encouraging acheivements. We are making progress.

That's how I see it, anyways.

Yeah I do try to read the good news and appreciate ShadowWar providing his articles and have told him so. It's not a surprise that those who continue to spout off about how "terrible" things are going and how "bogged down" we are in Iraq don't respond. After all, if they acknowledged the good things that are happening they would have to admit they are full of crap.
