Want Personal Retirement Accounts in Soc Security? WRITE ON!

From Citizens for a Sound Economy (almost sounds like a group that some Bush bashers would claim to be a member of), along with Empower America, Freedom Works (a political arm of those groups, headed in part by Dick Armey, Former US Representative and high-ranking GOP member), some important notes on who to contact if you want to see movement in the area of Social Security Reform.

Tell the Senate Seven to Back PRAs

Seven key senators are standing in the way of Social Security reform through Personal Retirement Accounts (PRAs).

The fight over Social Security is heating up on Capitol Hill, and President Bush is working with principled conservative legislators to enact Social Security reform. Unfortunately, this issue is stalling in Congress because certain lawmakers are stonewalling any discussion on personal accounts. Seven of these senators are particularly crucial for any reform bill, which is why we need you to tell them to stop stalling on PRAs!
Nearly all Americans would benefit from President Bush’s plan to let workers invest their Social Security taxes in a personal account. These accounts will grow with the economy, averting the Social Security crisis while providing retirees with bigger benefits. Indeed, workers that are allowed to invest a small portion of their payroll taxes (even just 4 percent) could gain over $10,000 a year.
The bad news: groups on the Left like the AARP and organized labor have launched a smear campaign against the president and his plan to save Social Security. Using baseless attacks and misleading rhetoric, these organizations are scaring seniors into calling their senators and representatives in opposition to reform. While many members of Congress see past their unethical scare tactics, seven crucial senators have yet to agree to an honest debate on the issue of personal accounts as a part of any reform plan. These senators are:

Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.)
Sen. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.)
Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine)
Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.)
Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.)
Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Nebr.)
Sen. Gordon Smith (R-Ore.)

The truth is that without PRAs, Americans are sure to face massive tax hikes and benefit cuts. Luckily, these seven senators are not yet a lost cause and with enough grassroots pressure, could be convinced to keep PRAs on the bargaining table.
