Crash to bluescreen then reboot on new game start

I just got the GalCiv2 beta. Here's what happens on my laptop:
1) Start the GalCiv2 application
2) Choose New Game option
3) Choose some galaxy options
4) Choose any race
5) Start the game
The "Loading..." thing appears for awhile, then I get a dark grey screen, followed by "an unexpected error has occurred in your application" popup. When I click the OK button, it goes to a bluescreen for a second, then the computer reboots. On the bluescreen, it says something like NO_PAGE_IN_AREA_FAULT (it doesn't stay up long enough to read it -- sorry).

I am running the game on a Sony VAIO laptop, model PCG-V505DC2. That model has a ATI Mobility Radeon card in it.

I hope an update comes soon that can fix this. I want to sample the beta!

Yuck...I dont think I've ever heard of GC actually BLUESCREENING a player.  For now, make sure you have the most recient DirectX and ATI Mobility drivers.  If you have/get those and it's still crashing, please send your debug.err info to [email protected] and we'll try and get to the bottom of this.

Sorry about the crash...hopefully we can fix it soon

Hey BoogieBac,
I looked at some other posts on here and found a link to www.omegadrivers.net, which had some enhanced drivers for Radeon cards. Installing those has got me past the CTD and Bluescreen/reboot.

However...
Going forward, I'm sure you guys don't want to tell customers they have to install non-standard video drivers in order to play your game. Hopefully you can get your hands on a Mobility Radeon with the standard drivers and try to reproduce this one. For now, at least I can try the beta.
