MJ verdict shows hope for nonconformists

After following the Jacko trial night and day, listening to every update, every new bend in the road, I say that there is hope for our country, yet. Every talking head I saw on TV seemed to say that he was guilty because he was weird. Weird does not mean evil!

I am not altogether the stereotypical 12 year-old. I follow politics. My favorite channel is CNN, and I get kicks out of reading the editorial cartoons. I refuse to conform to something I don't want to. I am a nonconformist, so is MJ, and had he been convicted, it would have shown a sad road that we are going down: a road where you conform or face the fury of the masses. A world much like that described by George Orwell in 1984.

The Jacko trial was more than a trial to see whether the King of Pop was a pedophile. It was a test to see if America really is the Land of the Free.

I knew he was wierd all along, but I didn't follow the trial at all. I don't care about celebrity gossip. I want news, not tabloids. All I know are two things: 1. He's wierd, and 2. Despite the fact that he's not guilty, I wouldn't want him as a babysitter.

liberalwithbackbone: You're very well-spoken for a 12 year old.

The trial had nothing to do with conformity. The charges he was faced with were stemming from alleged criminal acts, and had the jury felt convinced by the evidence presented, he would have been convicted not of nonconformity or of being a bit odd, but of committing crimes.

Identify with him all you like, but realize that he was not on trial for bleaching his skin or tweaking his nose or wearing funny jackets and having an amusement park in his back yard. He was charged with child molestation, which is not a nonconformist, quirky way of life, but a monstrous crime.

Tex:

Notwithstanding your views on terrorist torture , I'm liking you more and more every day.

Very well said, I could not agree more. While on the subject of the trial, let me be one to say that this is a case where I think the state should have to pay back MJ for his costs. That was the worst prosecution I have ever seen. While I agree with Sneddon's remarks that he can't pick his victims, I really think that all the state proved was MJ's supremely poor judgment.

BTW backbone, we live in a country that represents more cultures and nationalities than I care to count. I am a mere second generation on my Dad's side with my grandfather being from Scotland and my grandmother from Sicily. My mom's side is a mix of British, French and Cherokee. I don't know what you mean by conforming or not, but this country, if any, is the land of nonconformist, heck it was a bunch of nonconformists that created this great country of ours.

Don't sweat this conformist stuff so much, watch some NIckelodeon instead of all day CNN and be a kid. I was going to tell you to grow up, but if you are really 12, your'e doing it as we speak. Chill out.
