Software updates on SDC

I thought I used to be able to download a small update for a program instead of the entire program again. I have had to download the IP program like 3 times in the last week for a small update. DesktopX has an update today and I have to download almost 14mb. That takes time on a dial-up connection.

Was it always like this or am I doing something wrong now?

I am kind of curious about this myself.
It has been going on for awhile now, not quite sure when it started.
But as the rooster flies, awhile.

It is kind of a small annoyance on dial-up, as Island Dog has stated.

Thanks too.

I think they do the small update only on the incremental updates, an a, b c, 01, 02 etc. When it is a new version...such as 2.99c to 3.099, they do the full update...I may be wrong, but I do get smaller updates of other programs when it's not a new version number.

That's not what has been happening lately. It was a small update to DesktopX last night and I had to download the whole program again.

Yeah, I don't know Island Dog, I just updated it after seeing your post. 1.43 mb update and that is all it was for me, and no reboot needed...not sure what's happening on yours.

Thanks. I'd like to hear if anybody else is having this problem.

It says 13.4 MB for the DesktopX update here. I am on dial-up as well and I am really not keen to download it just yet. Especially since I have the slight suspicion that most of these 13.4 MB are the silica-widgets and other stuff I already have......

It is not just DX that does that recently, IP and WB are just as bad and as stated by Koasati in another thread, the downloads contain all the standard skins/packages (most of which I delete... and delete again).

I always thought that the whole point of the 'update through SDC' was to only replace the files needed, rather than re-download the full program (and all its skins!!!) again and again.

Another thing I noticed is the deceiving file-size. Usually the average IP update claims it is only 800+ KB..... until I hit the download button and then the 800 KB miraculously turn into several MB.

The same thing here. It tells me it's a small update then it ends up being the whole program.
