Naming of Galactic regions?

Is it possible in Galciv II to name a certain region with own creative names? Can the players name terrainsets like asteroidbelts or gas clouds? This would be fine. Its much better in the remembering of people if they fight the "Battle of Black Nebula IV" than to fight some battle in a anonym unnamed terrain which depicts a black colored gas cloud.
Very useful would also be "signs" you can freely set and designate anywhere on the map in between your own national borders.
A similar possibility was possible in Sid Meyers Alpha Centrauri and it rocked!

In multiplayer matches you can use these namings to give other players (enemies and allies alike) navigational hints during communication chatting. Like (to an enemy) "Stay away from starsystem Lunion and from the Twelve Heavens Asteroidbelt". Or (to an ally) "Ok you attack in direction starsystem Aldebaran, while I am hiding my 3rd fleet in Ion Storm '"Henry" to avoid detection."

I think a naming option or free setable "signs" would be very good and would contribute to the flair of the game while rather simple to program (at least I hope)

Might be nice if all regions/nebulae/asteroid belts are automatically assigned a name (like planets) which the player can later change if they want to (like planets).

If the game starts with no tags I don't think people would remember to use it, maybe they just forget that they can do it or cant be bothered to think up names, but I do think it would be underused. Also, if nameable 'objects' come pre-tagged, there is no need to add a tag button to the interface.

It would be a nice little feature to add character, nice one Klaus!

Personally I like the idea. I could use that a lot. Even if they were named already, when I discover it, I often give it a new name that is easier to remember.

You could do this on the game Alpha Centauri and since this game is looking simular to it gameplay wise i dont see why not, lol.

Sersiouly SMAC = best game ever and this looks to omgwtfpwn it.
