Pre-purchase and beta 2

Ok, saw many posts, some people upset over the "slip" of beta 2. It happens, oh well.

My big question is this, I have NOT pre-purchased the game yet, but am curious. If I pre-purchase now will I be able to jump into Beta 2?

Thanks

When it goes live, yes. You'll also gain access to the beta 1 code now.

Once beta 2 launches in second week of june, the open beta will be closed to new players as I understand it. So get your pre-orders in before then if you want access to the Betas.

I have a question of my own to add into this topic.

How is the beta? I mean in terms of just the layout and anything that wasnt in Galciv 1. Is GalCiv 2 looking like a good game so far?

well the concepts I have seen so far look very cool. Of course, beta 1 is missing a lot of stuff but concerning what is there it looks like it will be really cool. Hard to actually play the game, I seem to have issues when I try to load a save game but then I am not expecting much right now. AI is not there but I do not think anyone is worried about that given the track record for AI development in GC1.

The GC2 beta 1 definately shows off the main new features, world management and ship design. World management is interesting... it's possible to make a big industry world, and have several smaller worlds to pay for it. Or, you can make a world a research center. Whatever you want or need. That's very sweet.

Ship design is nice. Now, you can design what you need, rather then just make do. You can make a long range colonizer design, for instance. Small fighters. Or Super Troop Carriers. Whatever you need, you design that, and then you can build it. Very nice.

The new graphic engine is nice in that you can very easily zoom in and out on the main map. A much needed feature for GC1. It's like being able to frame an area just to the size you need for your strategic considerations, then zoom in to handle the tactical orders .

Other then that, there isn't too much else to talk about. It's an early beta, and most of the GC1 features are stubbed, waiting for their turn at attention and polishing.

It's very hopeful at being a fantastic game. I expect Star Dock will have GC2 living up to the promises that Beta 1 is showing.

Recently I was in Microcenter and I picked up a box for a pretty cool looking game, I mean if you have a lizardman in space it's got to be cool right? I looked at the back of the box and recoiled in horror; a game like MOO, but so much more so. This game was about to eat my life. I purchased the game like a fool, and then realized I had about 400 things to do in the real world before I could invest my time in a wonderful looking game, so after I had driven 3 miles down the road, I turned around and returned the game. I wanted to research it first, and check prices before I bought it. That game of course was Galactic Civilizations Deluxe. So I went home did about 27 of the 400 things and took a break to research it. It seems this is a very well rated game by some (and average by others), but now that 2 is coming out, why should I stay behind the times? (And it looks like in GalCiv, you can play that Lizardman race. Awesome.) My question are these; should I purchase it, and play in the betas, or wait for other beta stages? Also is this game multiplayer? I can't seem to find definitive data on that. Also on the race creation, has anyone ever considered allowing people to create their own races (models, animations, voice scripts and all) and then have the developers pick the ones that they feel come up to their standards and incorporate them into the game? Bottom line; is it worth it? I have to ask you guys because if you trust the video magazine reviewers, you may be trusting someone who doesn't really care about technology trees, and science institute upgrade lvl 3.

Recently purchased beta 1. Will I have access to beta 2 as well?

Well, you can't purchase the beta: you purchase a Totalgaming.net account or preorder Galciv II. in both case, you will have access to all betas of Galciv II

Sorry, but you can't ply as the lizard men. In GC1 you can only play as humans, but you select a political party to control, each has different benefits so in effect you play as a different 'race'.

When you pre-order GC2 you get access to all the beta builds. The finished game won't be out until next year though, so you'll have a wait before you can play the real thing. If you want a good strategy game now, then GC1 is a good buy.

GC2 will not support multi-player, but it is possible that Stardock may develop a mutli-player expansion pack. It has been discussed, but is far from certain as it will depend entirely on commercial interest. Either way GC2 will not ship with multi-player support.

Race creation, umm good question. I think the races are now set in stone for GC2, as the races from GC1 and its expansion are returning along with a couple of new races and a custom race option. The custom option won't go quite as far as you seem to suggesting, but I don't know a great deal about it yet. If you want to sent Stardock a proposal for a new race I'm sure they would be interested in new ideas.

In terms of the custom races, I believe that GalCiv II will provide most of what Relic Robot is looking for. The game is being made so that people can mod it easily, but even without that, the custom race stuff is pretty robust.

Awesome! I already have part of my brain thinking about Robot Flesh Thieves & Space Spiders. I can mod it, so I will buy it. Thank you very much!
