I’m a big fan of the George Romero “Living Dead” movies (the new one “Land of the Dead”, is coming out this month, by the way), and you remind me of “Harry Cooper”, the stubborn bald guy from “Night of the Living Dead”.
In the 1990 remake, the character sat watching a news report about the events, incredulous as the shaken reporter read one report from a reliable source that said that the dead were returning to life and eating the living. His face then relaxed into a cynical kind of grin as another report was read, this one from the CDC, which discredited the first. He wouldn’t believe the evidence of his own eyes, preferring to take the word of another, more “official” source, and never thinking to question the validity of the report he wanted to believe.
The “actual” source of the list, to me, isn’t as important as what’s on it, and, to me, at least, when it was presented.
So many things on that list are, indeed, part of the liberal agenda as it has emerged, and what indeed has to come to pass, in the years since 1963, when it was supposedly laid down. That’s very telling to me. One of the most glaring of those is the assault on our moral base, which has eroded considerably, and steadily, in the last 42 years. For example:
Things like perversion and degeneracy, once looked down upon, are now considered a “lifestyle choice”….the only kind that is still really frowned upon is pedophilia, and they’re working on that one; pornography is everywhere, even to be found cluttering the magazine racks in regular bookstores, right there with TV Guide, Sports Illustrated and Good Housekeeping; the traditional, 2-parent family, which anyone with any common sense knows is the preferable choice, has been steadily discredited, with fathers being given short shrift in favor of the noble single mother (the assault on marriage falls into this category, too); religion, mainly Christianity, natch, comes under assault at every turn.
The standards of the American educational system have decayed so very much since the early 1970s, when the Left, with its newer, more touchy-feely agenda, came into control (“Hi, you VERY special people! I’m your new math teacher, Mr. Jimmy….like my sandals and ponytail? Now, I want you to know that I won’t be grading you in the traditional manner anymore. I’ll be grading you on how supportive you are of one another, how much you bolster each other’s self-esteem, and how many smiles and hugs you give each other! Isn’t that fun? Let’s all clap and say ‘yay’! Yay!”), that American public schools now lack any real scholastic merit or achievement, especially as compared to other nations which we used to leave in our dust. History, especially American history, is not really considered all that important anymore, either. I can remember, even when I was in high school waaay back in the early 80s, that my history book relegated WW2, the defining event of the 20th century, and American involvement therein, to a little more than 2 pages! Fostering this kind of sanctioned ignorance is just plain wrong. And it is the Left that is doing it all.
There are so many more examples there too, Harry, if you just believe your own eyes, and forget what the CDC is telling you.
So clearly, there is some engine behind these events, working toward making it all a reality. Things have not really improved for our nation in the last 40 years, if you haven’t noticed, unless you think a weakening industrial base, unstable domestic political relations and overall military strength, worsening morals, depravity and a lessening of respect for each other are an improvement.
But then, considering the Bizzaro World many on the Left seem to live in, they probably do.
