Downloads No Longer in App-Specific File Format

In the last few weeks it seems that everything I try to download is now in ZIP format, and usually without intact destination paths for the contents. There usually is not any kind of "readme" file to suggest what to do with the contents for newbies. Now I can unpack a Windowblinds submission and figure out what to name the folder, but it was so much easier when you downloaded the wba (if I remember the extension correctly) file for a Windowblinds skin, or the iptheme file for IconPackager, etc.

Could I just be missing a setting in WindowBlinds or the on WinCustomize?

Thanks.

The problem is most likely SP2, and IE. Read the opening comment in this thread... https://www.wincustomize.com/Forums.aspx?ForumID=187&AID=66020

Nope didn't miss it - except in previous posts - appears to have happened with IE after SP2. FireFox wants to open with the correct program or asks to save if it's actually a zip.

See Koasati's Link and Skarnivorous' Link links for more info (both are pinned)

I've seen this same thing happening with many files, and I don't even have SP2 installed. But fortunately I know where the files go when this happens.

I have had great success by selecting "All Files" in the "Save as type:" drop-down list located in the Save as dialog.

This always maintains the original file extension for me using IE.

Just my 2 cents.

Why is it a penny for your thoughts, but you have to put your two cents in?

Someone's making a penny...

You should'nt have to unpack anything or name any folders. Let WB do it for you. Just Save the zip file to your \windowblinds folder, open up your WB dialog and "install from disk", scroll to the WB directory and click on the zip file you just downloaded, and the skin is now loaded-ready to install.

We pay what we think your thoughts are worth.

you have to put your two cents in

You think your opinion is worth more than that we will pay.

This in not intended as a reflection of the worth of Mr Big Stuff Andrew (the name alone scares me). This is merely my own unwarranted, unasked for, uncalled for and unremarkable 2 cents worth.

And yes, I know I have change coming.

About 3 cents...

Crissy...I agree that you shouldn't have to unpack or rename anything, but I've gotten some cursors that downloaded as zip files and I had to rename them .CurXPTheme to install them. I've not had it happen with WindowBlinds though.

In addition to what Koasati said in his article I repeat what I have said in many threads concerning this.
The issue will resolve itself after a few days. For now, just rename from .zip to .wba and double click it.
I don't know why it self-heals, but it does.
