Why I Support Belinda Stronach for Conservative Leader

Some may quible. They'll say that one shouldn't answer that one is "not a military expert" when asked about contributing Canadians soldiers to the invasion of Iraq -- at least not if one is a candidate for Prime Minister.

But, nevertheless, I hereby throw my unconditional support behind Belinda Stronach for leader of the Conservative Party of Canada.

I have reasons, three:

  • Non-Threatening: Belinda probably won't engender enough fear amongst the masses to cost the NDP many votes. Unlike Stockwell Day, she isn't scary enough to send left-leaning Liberals hiding behind Paul Martin's skirt. (Hopefully this will help keep Liberal vote totals down in Ontario and the Atlantic.)

  • Anti-Populist: As we all know, one reason that so many Western ridings flipped from NDP to Reform/Alliance is that voters were trading one populist movement for another. But Stronach will combine the worst of both the Alliance and the PCs: a radically conservative membership and an eastern elitest leadership. (Obviously, this helps the NDP in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and British Columbia.)

  • Slick Belinda: Lets face it, the Conservatives -- much less Belinda Stronach -- haven't got a chance. But I think Paul Martin's people are so obsessed with image politics ("Paul Martin as Lord and Saviour!") that a candidate like Belinda Stronach may well scare them.

    If Martin moves right to fend off the Tories, the NDP will gain an open left flank. Go Belinda!

    I supported Belinda Stronach because of her good and strong ideas she is for the people of this Country. Because she an strong advocate for human rights. Belinda is for the people but if she is not able to become leader or change the Conservative Party then she should join the NDP's because Belinda reminds me of an NDP Politician. Belinda Stronach is the New Energy that Jack Layton is looking for. I hope Belinda will read this.

    John (a.k.a. JCD) your wrong about Belinda she was not born with a silver spoon in her mouth she will support the low and mid incomers first. She is for the people but she is in the wrong party. The NDP will benifit from her because of her views and ideas. Her views and ideas are more Social Democratic then Conservative. Yes I do call my self a canadian and I support Belinda.
