Garret, you can just use the PrtScr(Print Screen)button on your keyboard, top right side right after the F12 key. That will copy it to the clipboard. Then just open an image editor, something as simple as MS Paint will work, and paste it as a new image. Name it and save it and it's done. You can use other programs but that works fine and the quality is good also.

Boss is absolutely right. He forgot to tell you, to upload a screen shot and the like to this site it needs to be in .jpg format. So, save anything for uploading to this site in that format.

Will doing it this way also pick any objects? liek the pngs i use for icons.

I've been using the capture dock since when i use my prtscr it shoots right over to the printer and i've been too lazy to try and find the setting for default. other screen captures (psp irfanview) don't pick up objects.

but, if doing so will also pick up objects i might give it a go to see if the pict is clearer.

"Shift+PrintScrn > MS Paint > Edit menu > Paste" (as indicated by Boss019) should pick up Object Dock.

Screen image should be fine.

It may not pick-up widgets (perhaps Boss019 could clarify, I dropped DX).

It picks up everything...check my gallery....lol...j/k...I use it for all my screenies and previews for logons , save in PSP at a medium level quality .jpg

it just doesnt pick up the mouse cursor, or any movies playing in WMP, Real, etc.

It does pick up the cursor, and also the visualzations on WMP. All my screenies are done with paint. Everything on my desktop is picked up.

This is how I do it, exactly: I set up my desktop how I want it to look in the SS, I then hit PrtSc (printscreen). Next I open Photoshop, hit Ctrl_N, then OK, then Ctrl-V. next I go to File-Save As, set the format as .jpg, give it a name and save it in my uploads folder.

Job done!!......have fun!

It does on mine. Maybe we are talking about 2 different things. I set my desktop like I want it. Hit print screen button. Open paint and hit paste. I give it a name and save it as a .jpg. My cursor and everything on my desktop is on the image. Even the cursor the trails and WMP visuals.

It just won't get the food smears on my monitor from eating at the computer everything else it will, even a Logon that you apply..print screen will capture that...but NOT the mouse in that instance

Good one Rick! It doesn't capture the fingerprints either! LOL

I post in a thread asking how to take a screenshot about once a month or more. We should make a thread called "Just Hit Print Sceen" lol

I know that the problem is quite solved, but I'll say it anyway
When you hit the "Print Screen" key, it captures visualizations, but it does not capture movies. And it only captures the cursor if you have CursorXP installed.

I hope I'm not lying

shift+prtscr works for me.
if i just use the print key, my printer fires up.

You are absolutely right. The regular cursor disappears when you hit the PrtScrn button. I didn't know that until I just tried it!

I use a freeware app: MWSnap that I think I dl'ed from Snapfiles. Easy to use, saves in most common formats, and allows for either full desktop or fixed/variable rectanguler areas. The price is right. I find it a simpler solution than the PrintScreen process. Hope this helps.
