Bush Stonewalling Senate Request for Bolton Information

The Senate, as part of its advise and consent function, has requested certain information from the State Department concerning various incidents surrounding John Bolton who is the president’s nominee for UN ambassador. The State Department and the Bush administration have not provided some of the information requested by the Senate because they claim the Senate does not need the information requested because it is not relevant.

It is not up to the White House or the State Department to tell the Senate what is relevant to fulfill their constitutional responsibility of advise and consent. If the Senate does not receive all the information it has requested concerning John Bolton, it should NOT vote on his nomination. To allow the State Department or the White House to circumscribe the process of the Senate in advise and consent process would be a violation of the separation of powers.

This may be so as far as trhe letter of the Constitution is concerned. However, there is a feeling that thei unfortunate Bolton is being pilloried not so much for his sins but for the public relation disaster he has turned out to be. He is a crude officious man who probably humiliates his subordinates, but that hi not reason enogh to deny him his confirmation. If Rumsfied can win Senate approval with his track record, surely Bolton deserves it too.

For me the issue is the separation of powers. Bush thinks if he wants something that what Congress MUST support it. Everyday Bush looks more and more like a dictator. He decides how to run everyting. He decides what Congress needs. He decides what is best for Social Security. I recall his statement after the Supreme Court appointed him in 2000. It would be easier if the government were a dictatorship so long as he was the dictator.

Hey ain't this "why" we voted him back into office? He's the one who is "supposed" to make decisions.

Wrong again. The President is to see that government runs per the laws which Congress passes. He is not the one to establish the laws but to make sure they are followed. Bush thinks whatever he wants congress should pass and than things are done HIS way. Bush also selectively enforces the laws. For example, he is not enforcing the immigration laws of this country. WHY?

YOUR the one that's wrong NOT me! I don't even want to try and guess "how" many times you've been proven wrong. He's the one that is supposed to make the deecisions at which point congress either makes it happen or says no way! Knock off the ignorant Bush bashing and screw your head on straight. Or at the very least pull it out of your rectum! And just an FYI it's NOT his job to enforce ANY law. Immagration or otherwise!

Miler?

You are saying it's not the presidents job to make sure illegal aliens don't get into the country? Is that correct?

So by that logic, what else isn't he supposed to do?

Sorry to hijack COL, but i had to ask.

I'm not saying anything like the president is not responsible to ensure that illegal aliens don't enter this country and when they do they should be removed. The laws are on the books the president is not enforcing those laws. He is not requesting the manpower with which to do the enforcing. In fact he himself has said it would take an additional 10,000 border guards and then doesn't ask for the money to hire the 10,000 people. This is an example of how Bush is not meeting his responsibilities and it's not Bush bashing it is the truth about what the president is not doing. There are millions of illegals in this country. If we are enforcing our laws, how did they get here?

I think they should use the National Guard to patrol the borders. But we all know where they are instead of protecting the homefront don't we?

But back to the topic at hand. Violation of the Seperation of Powers is an impeachable offense. I think it behooves dubya to give out the info to avoid potentially ending up in the same boat as bubba did.
even if it is an impeachable offense can you see the current Congress impeaching their beloved George W?
I doubt they would do it, but a few repubs might just go along with it.

It is just Bush bashing when you just focus on blaming Bush. When have you criticized the governors of the border states? How about the members of Congress from those states. I agree Bush isn't doing enough, but it's not his fault alone. You have an obsession with blaming Bush for everything while ignoring anything else.

Protecting our borders is not a state responsibility it is a Federal responsibility. Bush has admitted he needs 10,000 more guards and has done nothing to request the funding or authorization to hire those people. This is 100% George Bush for not fulfilling his responsibilities. Had he requested the funds from Congress and they turned him down it would Congress but Bush has not included funding in any of his budgets since 9/11/2001. In addition Bush is not dealing with the people who have crossed the border and these officials also report to Bush . This has nothing to do Bush bashing it has to do Bushis failing to meet his responsibilities to protect this country's borders and deal with the illegal aliens who are in this country.

Reread my post and try to read slowly this time. I said it's NOT his responcibility to "ENFORCE the LAW"! That's the job of policemen and border patrol, etc.

To enforce the law and you need the resources to do the job. Bush has stated it would take at least 10,000 more border guards to safeguard our border. Bush HAS NOT requested those 10,000 border guards nor the money to hire them. Bush is NOT DOING HIS JOB!!! Are you just stupid or what??

"Your" accomplishments and education mean as much to me as mine do to you, NOTHING! All the education in the world is WORTHLESS if you don't have any common sense to go with it. Just an FYI....possible lack of education does NOT mean that someone is stupid. Come back to reality now.

your reply just confirms your ignorance. The arguments that you make clearly show a lack of basic understanding and a blind loyalty to policies that are not helping the vast majority of the American people.

Okay, care to explain to me and everyone else how you can twist a statement about education into one that supports Bush policies? Now who's showing their ignorance?
You lack of understanding, education and reasoning is shown by your blind support even when the facts show there is no logical reason for your support . I provided to you with a specific situation of Bush explaning we need 10,000 more guards and that he is not requesting the money or authoritry to provide what he tells us are required. Your answer is I am stupid. No - it is Bush who fails to act on what he says is required. That is stupid and you defend it. That makes you both stupid!!!

You are truly out of touch and have no idea of what you are talking about. If you are the type of person who supports Bush, it is easy to understand why we are not solving our problems!
