Each dragon is born in this world with a power, powers like lightning, fire, plant, earth, psychic, rock, armour, metal, speed, robot, animal, and some that are a total mystery. Some dragons are evil and some are good, but humans don’t know about dragons. No one has ever seen a dragon, there have been stories of dragons being real, but no one knew until one day. Jake woke upon to the annoying sounds of his alarm clock and quickly shut it off. He hated having to wake up at 6:30 to go to school. The same old routine wake up, eat breakfast, brush teeth, comb hair and then out the door with the same old heavy backpack. Get on the bus, go to school and learn stuff I won’t even need in my older life.
Although today was different. While walking to the bus stop on a nice, cold winter’s day with snow blowing all over, something went over the sun that engulfed the world in darkness for about ten seconds. Jake looked up quickly but there was not a cloud in the sky. So what was it that covered the sun? Before he could thing about it much the bus came around the corner. When he got on the bus his crazy, old bus driver Phil said “hey, you look a little sidetracked today Jake, Anything you want to talk about?”
“Actually yah there is did you just see a cloud or something go over the sun?” Asked Jake.
“Nope, sorry Jake I didn’t” Said Phil
“Okay thanks Phil”. Jake went and sat in his seat to wait for his best friend Martin. Jake is a kid with dirty blonde hair. Jake is a very short kid, shortest kid in his class, actually. Jake liked to play sports like hockey, soccer, bowling and baseball. Jake loved to draw, play on the computer, play video games, do drama and listen to music. He baby-sits and helps his dad in his electronics store that he owns. He usually gets picked on by all his classmates because he’s so short. Jake is in grade eight and isn’t the most popular kid (not very popular at all). Jake was always wishing, wishing he could be taller wishing, he could have more friends and wishing that just once he could be the hero, that everyone would be calling his name. “Go Jake!” “Go Jake!” “Go Jake!” “JJJJJAAAKKKEEE wake up!”
“Huh, what’s going on” Said Jake.
“It’s me, your best friend, Martin, can you move over so I can sit with you”! Sure enough, there was his best friend, Martin. In his ugly brown shirt, the same face full of freckles, big nose, and brown hair with blonde streaks.
“Yah, sure sit down” Jake said.
“Hey, did you see that shadow go over the sun” Said Jake.
“Yah, I did” martin said, “Did you see what it was?”
“No I didn’t, do you think it might have been an airplane?"
“No, because an airplane would not be flying that low when there’s not an airport for miles and miles from here, and an airplane would not go so fast so we would have see what it was!”
“Well I don’t know what that was, but maybe I will ask some kids in class if they saw it.”
When Jake got to school he had asked what seemed like over seventy kids and only seven said they saw a shadow go over the sun. Four of the kids were from his class. The first was Alicia a girl with blonde hair and really pretty (Jake liked this girl). The second person was a kid with brown hair, braces, and believed in all sort of myths like the Loch Ness Monster, Yetis, and Dragons his name was Tim. The other kid name was Justin. Justin is a tall, popular kid with blonde hair but he wasn’t all that smart. And the last kid was a tomboy named Christina with orange hair and likes to be called Chris. There was also a kid in grade seven named Roscoe but people call him Ross for short he had a lot of scars on his face, legs, and arms. Ross also loved animals. Two other kids that are twin brothers in grade six named Jim and Jack. The last person was a kid in grade three his name was Zack.
When Jake got back home his Mom said to him “Jake you look a little tired, what’s the matter honey”. “Not much Mom, hey did you see anything go over the sun around 7:00 this morning?” “No I was inside all day with your younger daughter.” He looked over at his little one year old daughter in her playpen. Jake was actually getting mad that know one saw what made the world go dark, and why was he even worrying about this? It was just a little shadow, but he just kept wondering, like it was a homework assignment.
After supper he went to his room to lay down, he looked over at his clock it said 6:30, then 7:00 then 7:30 then 8:00 then asleep.
Jake was walking across a green pasture with flowers, bunny’s, and deer. Jake just wanted to lie down and sleep but all of a sudden the bunny that was licking his arm ran and the deer galloped away and it seemed liked the flowers were hiding. Then he saw fire burst over the hill and something so huge, so scary fly over the hill and then, he woke up, sweating, and silent screaming. It was 6:00 in the morning; he went downstairs and played video games. He was so happy he did not have to go to school today, Or for about two weeks because of Christmas holidays. It was going to be a good day sledding with martin, and some other of his buddies, then hot chocolate with marshmallows, and to top it all off a sleepover with his best friend martin. He was almost in the wizard’s castle on his video game when he remembered he should go outside and check if the snow is good for sledding. Jake saved his game, went up stairs, put a jacket on over his pyjamas and went outside. The snow great, but the fifty foot dragon his front lawn did not. The dragon was crimson red, and had giant claws, massive teeth and had a cage beside him with a lot of kids in it. Jake almost fell over when he saw the dragon. Jake was so scared he wanted to just walk inside and pretend this never happened, but then the dragon spoke. He said “go get some luggage you want to bring, and don’t try to run away because I will find you.” Jake ran to get anything that he might need. Where he was going, what did he need? Jake was so scared at the moment. He wished he could be downstairs playing video games. This might be a big adventure. He might be the hero, maybe he will be the one who gets to go on an adventure. So Jake grabbed his vacation bag and put his compass, 2 blankets, 1 small pillow, 2 small packs of Kleenex, a first aid kit, 2 packs of cookies, 1 loaf of bread, a small camping stove (that would cook a can of soup or anything in a can), 5 cans of soup, 3 cans of vegetables, 4 cans of milk, plastic forks, spoons, and knives, canned fruit, crackers, 6 bottles of water, 3 boxes of macaroni and cheese, sweaters, jeans, t-shirt, short, swim shorts, rubber boots, running shoes, ( he would where his winter jacket, snow pants, winter boots, one sweater, a t-shirt underneath, pants two pairs of socks and underpants.) he would also bring toilet paper, fishing rod with extra hooks and lures, a mini calendar for 2004 (right now it was December 8th 2003), some pens, note pad, and other drawing materials. Then Jake grabbed a piece of paper and started writing a note. The note said:
To family
I have left for a while I don’t know when Ill be back maybe tomorrow, in a week, two weeks, a month, a year, who knows.
Please don’t worry a bout me I love you a lot.

Jake grabbed his bag and ran outside the dragon was still there. He said “finally now get in the cage, with the others, and please be quite.” He said in his very ruff voice. Jake went towards the cage and the door slowly opened. When he walked in the cage the faces started to seem to be familiar but scared. It was Alicia, Tim, Justin, Christina (Chris), Ross, Jim, Jack Zack and Martin, seeing Martin there made him so happy he just wanted to hug him but he didn’t. Why were we all here, in a cage? Why did he need all his stuff? Would he ever be able to come home? He had so many questions he wanted answering.
Then the dragon turned his head to the kids and said “you kids were the only ones who cared or even thought about the shadow on the sun, so I am now going to take you kids where no humans have gone before where only fairy tales exist, now I don’t want any questions on the way there.” The dragon had a voice that was so ruff and sounded so tough but yet he looked so kind, and helpful almost like jakes dad. The dragon started to fly into the early morning sky. His wings like a helicopter it takes a little while for it to get started and then up, up, up till Jake could see the base ball that got stuck on the roof from last month. Soon they were higher than the tree on the front lawn, then the house, and then they were flying through the crisp cold air. But the kids weren’t cold it was almost like there was a heater in the cage, Jake thought he knew what was. It was the heat coming from the dragon. Jake had not noticed until now that the dragon straight in the air, through the clouds, through the shining stars and planets, higher, higher, higher, and higher then they were upside down twirling, and spinning, and then back upright in the bright blue sky.
Nobody was hurt, sick, or dizzy; they were all just a little scared, especially Zack who was crying heavily on Alicia’s shoulder. They were slowly going towards the ground now, and they could see the lush green pasture below coming into focus the closer they got.
“Uh… excuse me Mr. Dragon sir, where are we.” Martin said bravely.
“My name is Rodon thank you, and we have just passed from the human world into my world, the world of creatures, we call it Calonia.”
“Who are we?” Martin asked.
“The creatures of course.” Rodon said
“What creatures?” said martin
“Any kind of creature you can think of, Dragons, yetis, unicorns, macos, tohays, and a lot more.”
“But what in the world are macos, and tohays.” Said Tim piping up suddenly it almost scared them.
“You kids ask far too many questions, macos are giant snakes with a poisonous stinger at the end of its tail.”
“Doesn’t sound too friendly do it?” Said Alicia.
No they are not, and tohays are giant flightless birds with a pouch on the front of its stomach that carries its babies in.” Said Rodon.
“I don’t want to be here.” wailed Zack
“Yah, like, why in the world we here.” Asked Chris
“I will tell you tomorrow, but know we sleep, and in the morning you will learn the reason you are in the land of Calonia”, so goodnight for now my little people friends.” Rodon said then he said turned and said “I will be back in about one hour do not leave this area for any reason.” Rodon blew some fire out of his mouth which made us all jump and it started a fire right in the middle of all of them, then he flew away, that’s when it got awkward.
Everyone just stood there, watching rodon fly away, until he was just a tiny little dot floating away into the evening sky.
“Well its getting dark and we should set up camp.” Tim said. Everyone jumped at the sound of his voice, because no one had talked at all we were tired, scared, And no one was here to protect us.
