Bush policies allow NYC to create record surplus

Surely this must be credited to Pres. Bush, right?

Hey, if everything that goes wrong in the country can be attributed to some screwed up policy or implementation by President Bush, then he also most certainly deserves credit when something goes better than expected.

Considering that President Bush is blamed for everything, this must be something that was in some way his fault also.

Headline is linked (as usual).

2006 Budget: Biggest Surplus In NYC History

May 5, 2005 6:00 pm US/Eastern
(1010 WINS) (NEW YORK) Mayor Michael Bloomberg proposed a $49.7 billion budget on Thursday and said the city's economy is healthy enough to make New Yorkers grin, but maybe not smile.
The budget for the next fiscal year is balanced -- in part with a $3.2 billion surplus from this year, the largest in city history, due to significantly higher tax revenues. Still, the mayor predicted a deficit of $4.5 billion for 2007 and $4.2 billion after that.
"We have a reason to have a grin on our face -- a big smile, maybe not, but a grin on our face -- because we have made the tough decisions and, in retrospect, I think it's fair to say that we've made the right decisions," he said.
As he has repeatedly throughout his term since taking office in 2002, he blamed most of the troubles for future deficits on expenses out of the city's control, like pensions, debt service, fringe benefits and Medicaid.

Remember now folks, what is good for the goose is good for the gander. The Bush bashers that want to blame President Bush's fiscal policies for all that ails our economy and future economies will of course ignore the thought that the policies of the President may in some way be tied to the extra income that was flowing into the NYC coffers.

Certainly, as part of the article points out, there will be problems for the NYC economy in the future, as there will be for the U.S. economy, but hopefully you'll get the main point of my article here -- blaming Bush for these problems, or crediting him for the successes is pretty much equally ignorant.

The President of the United States' policies have little to no actual impact in the economy. He may push for tax cuts, which must be enacted by Congress. He may also push for certain spending goals, which also must be passed by Congress. But in the end, those cuts are no more directly attributable to the President than are the actual spending limits that Congress passes.

The economy in this country is a very complex animal, which is impacted upon by many different factors, including consumer spending, business spending, individual savings, corporate saving and investment, Fed policy and more.

Any idiot that goes around continually crying that it's all Bush's fault, or that Bush's policies are destroying the U.S. -- either in the economy or otherwise -- is nothing more than an attention seeking negative nelly. Hopefully most people will see them for that and not give them the ego boost they are searching for.

While I applaud your stance on the issue I feel I need to inform you of something of a semi-serious nature. If you're looking for good news to attribute to the Bush Administration you really need to find an article that pertains to him or his policies. Let's me honest here as usual. If New York City's economy was worse than this article states no serious analyst is going to be blaming Bush for it. NYC's personal finances are not directly controlled by Bush. He makes no manoevres concerning the city's budget for public toilet maintenance and their toilet paper supply. There's good reason why this article is about Mayor Bloomberg. Because he's the mayor and this issue is about the city's fiscal position. What's strange is that you should choose this article to give Bush your support. There are plenty of good news articles to be found all over America. If you have the time you should do what I do once a week or so. Go to a US newspaper listing website and go state by state choosing one major state newspaper and checking out their front pages. When there is significant news being circulated (missing bride-to-be or Pope is dead stories) it's pretty interesting to read all the headlines state by state, since each news site will generally have the same top stories happening at the same time.

funny how that works above me is a prime example of one that blames bush for everything under the sun, yet absolves bush from any good. hmmmmmmmmmm

If you think Bush is responsible for the results in New York City may be he should become Mayor of New York not president of the United States.

Know something *col*? Your fatalistic theories and ideas are mind numbing at best and boring at least.

I just read the linked headline from the New York online paper. It does not mention any direct or indirect link between the president or his policies. What is the basis for your assertion?

Lets try reading again please. Hopefully it is a skill you acquired during your time in the educational system, wherever it may have been:

Some would point out that a certain individual whose quote is noted below has done nothing but blame Bush for all that is evil and wrong everywhere, and the quote below certainly seems to continue in that thread. (Worthy of a troll of the day award, which I encourage others to help award).

Whatever point you might have persuaded me to consider was forever lost in the condescending tone of your opening response.

The condesending tone was in direct responce to you not bothering to read or comprehend what he wrote.
