Events customized to your alignment

Only if your Evil

I can't help but remember the Imperium Galactica II event like this;

A Sun is about to go supernova, and a desperate but pathetic alien race contacts you, asking for aid.

As the "Good" Humans, you can naturally send transports ships to aid the survivors and as a reward you get a handy tech and some increased population. Plus the joy of knowing you did something good.

As the evil conquering race, the same event plays out for you, but your choices are different. The game assumes you would never send transport ships, as culturaly this would be impossible to you. Instead, you get to choose to send some troops down for some last minute target practice. "This will give their deaths some meaning!!". You actually get some bonus out of it, I can't remember what, I was too busy laughing at the 'well meaning' Sub-officer who encouraged me to 'aid' them by hastening their death in combat.

I'd like to see events that trigger based on alignment, that are written specifically to that. Evil Ruthless Empires should get special events, where all three choices are fairly ruthless. I would love to assist in this area. I've all these wonderful ideas about how you can tell a story in the game with the events. I am just an abysmal programmer.

I'd also like to see that once you reach a certain alignment, normal events only allow the neutral and evil choice. You can't expect kindness so easily, once your culture and officers reach a certain level of ruthlessness. To even it out, all events could optionally have an extra choice that replaces the good choice with an evil one.

Naturally, you'd need to invert this for a Truly Good player. Once you reach a level of Goody-Goody, the choice to "Great, more slaves for me." should actually be gone, and/or replaced with one even more goody-goody than the good choice. "Welcome them with open arms!"

ya, and also:

why not (evil side) force them to PAY for a transport... eh?

And ship them to the salt mines... Nothing like slaves paying for the privilige of being slaves!

Its simple.

An Event is written with three sets of choices.

If your race is neutral or has yet to choose an alignment of good or evil, you get the vanilla choices you are used too.

If your race is evil, you get a special set of choices, where all three are ruthless to some extent.

The same for good, except the final choices are altruistic.

Consider;

"The Planet Kydonia V has a race of beings not unlike humans, in their rennaisance period."

Is "Great! enslave them!" really a viable option for a race that controls the Temple of Goodness?

Instead the choices may be all aligned Good in nature, but with slightly different bonuses. I would happily write up a dozen if the devs showed interest, as examples.

I would like to see this implemented as well.

i agree although a fourth choice thats either neutral or the opposite alignment of your race should be there

I like the idea!

Especially if it is some how connected with the alignment effects, such as the accessibility of tech. Bear with me here for a moment:

Lets say neutral yet undiscovered armor and weapons (see the alignment description - I dont think they are implemented) techs came only in special events offering you some moderate bonus (miniturization, planet quality leap etc.) or accessibility to a alignment specific tech.
Alignment specific tech would then come in two groups:
one group that all (e.g.) neutrals have like neutral shipping and
one group that needed triggering that depending on creativity would show up sooner or later or maybe not at all.

I'm looking forward to see if or how they implement neutral armor and weapons - i could start a new thread just about that - but I'll shut up now!
