Minuteman organizer says will target employers

Reading through some of The Express, a sister publication "freebie" of The Washington Post, there's this comment at the end of an article that discusses Border Project Wraps Up, Ariz. 'Minuteman' patrol ends to mixed reviews:

One of the primary organizers, James Gilchrist of Southern California, declared "unconditional victory" at the Arizona border on April 18 and said he was turning his attention to employers who hire illegal workers.

story apparently originally credited to Gail Gibson (The Baltimore Sun)

YES!!!!

This man "gets it", he sees where the problem really is, and apparently he's ready to turn his aim directly on it.

Pop quiz: what is the real reason that illegal immigation is a problem in this country?

Feel free to answer that rhetorical question any way you please. My own answer is simply: money.

Money can be made easily in this country, or at least fairly easily, while in other countries -- especially, unfortunately Mexico -- the jobs are not as plentiful and the payment for work performed is not as generous, even when compared to relatively paltry wages paid here.

Until money can be removed from the equation as an incentive for coming across the borders illegally, we'll continue to have problems with border security. People will always try to cheat the system by enterring illegally, and in another important component of the equation, people will try to cheat the system by employing illegals who work at lower rates than others who might take the jobs.

The problem is multi-faceted. We have employers that will pay low wages to multiple migrant workers because they can get that plentiful labor at low rates. The employers are competing against other employers that will do the same thing, and in an effort to be the lowest bidder and win the business contracts they'll use every trick they can, including ignoring rules, regulations and laws that are already in effect.

We need better enforcement of our existing laws, and we need a serious crackdown on employers that are not living within the law. I hope that the Minutemen can shed much more light and publicity on this area, and hope it leads to more tightening of our borders.

well that might be a stretch, but I get your point, and it's a real good point.

Good On 'Em!!

If all illegal aliens found when they got here were, "illegal aliens need not apply" signs (either actual or figurative), word would make it to "South of the Border" eventually.

It's much like the drug smuggling problem. If there were no payoff on this end, the problem would all but take care of itself.

Just like the drug problem, a lot of people know where the illegal aliens are, the powers that be just prefer to not do anything real to stop it.

*yawn*

if gilchrist and his 'hundreds' (200 tops before they started jumping into their suvs and fading away a couple days later) minutemen (much more appropriately dubbed '15 seconds of fame men')numbered at most 200 ("hundreds") were hellbent on dragging news crews out to the desert, then he's correct in declaring victory--although it seems to me unconditional victory in that effort would have resulted in at least 5 reporters to each of his guys, rather than the mere 2:1 or 3:1 ratio he achieved.

assuming he can raise the busfare, his best chance of success in his new endeavor would be to travel to dc and surrounding areas and target the homes of elected officials. shouldnt be too difficult, even for him, to discern which woman of the house is a wife and which is a maid or nanny.

Hey kingbee....your ignorance is showing.

You know I find it funny. All the bad stuff that the left said the minutemen were going to cause, DIDN'T HAPPEN. So I guess now their tactic will be to minimalize the minutemen and what they did. Probably because the left is too lazy to get off their butts and help.

my ignorance is showing? gilchrist said there'd be 1600 minutemen. no more than 200 (and that's a generous estimate) showed up. all they did in the end was make the illegals readjust their route by 23 miles. even an expert on the subject such as yourself must surely realize that 23 miles don't mean shit to people who've travelled the 1700 brutal miles from el salvador--having had to evade gangs of thieves, mexico's police, etc.

our illustrious governator needs an issue cuz hes going down in flames so he jumps on the bandwagon. only he's not gonna allow armed civilians doing anything of the sort in cauliflower (or whatever he's calling the state these days).

they made a huge impact...on their own senile selves. everytime i see that commercial with wilfred brimley trying to kill a horse by breaking its back with his bodyweight while selling diabetes testing supplies i'm reminded of em.

What i don't get is why anyone is against them...sure they've been a bit of a problem for the border patrol...but when has the boder patrol done a decent job. These people [the illegals crossing the border] are, well, ILLEGAL, if they want to come earn a living, get a visa, or gain citizenship...its not too hard....
