Weather "Objects"

Not able to make work

I have six of these "objects" and can't get any of them to work. I have tried a couple of different internet connections also with no luck. However, the "CURRENCY" converter and the stock quote objects/widgets both work fine with no problem. I have turned off my firewall, tried at LAN connection that has proxy set via IE, and at LAN connection that is just plain open and no luck.

Let's not even ask about whether I have rebooted.
I have used a good 12 different ZIP codes (all USA), and keyed in a few CITY/STATE combos with no luck.

I am running KLIPFOLIO and it has no problem access its weather "KLIPS". I don't know that the mechanism is the same or not.

I have tried with the DESKTOP loaded and without (for a widget anyway).

What setup am I missing?

Hmmm,I don't think you missed anything here. Have you tried and used the weather codes (from http://www.weather.com) instead of the ZIP codes? Most Objects use the wheather from this website and the codes might work better then just the Zip numbers.

Just go the website and enter your zip-code. Then choose your city from the list (if there is more than one) and click on it. You should then get to your citys weather page. You will find the code for your city in the navigation bar of your browser towards the end. I should look something like this: US****** .

Enter this code into your DesktopX objects instead of the zip code and they should work.

Desktop X has the weird behaviour of not working the same for all users. Some widgets will work for you and not for another person and vice versa. Add the fact that old widgets are often broken because of bad code or change in internet pages (for internet related programs).

All Weather Widgets (and the one that I use: https://www.wincustomize.com/ViewSkin.aspx?SID=1&SkinID=284&LibID=34&comments=1) resets icons and weather forecast after reboot. How it's possible to make it store the last forecast and icons after reboot?

If your weather object is not working as you'd expect, try going to Internet Options and changing it to check for newer versions of a page each visit to that page.

Or something like that.

You don't change it in the weather widget. You change it from Internet Explorer or:

Control Panel > Internet Options > Temporary internet files > Settings

Apparently DX parses a web page to get the weather information, and if the page is loading from the cache, it won't update.

Hi...

All of my objects that connect to the web work fine except for weather objects. At home with a direct connection (no proxy) they work fine, but at work (using a proxy) they can't connect... but I can get them to open a radar image HTML type window (if the object supports that)

Is there some way around the proxy server issue? ....I'm not very good at VB, and my attempts to write it in haven't worked so far. All other widgets / objects use the "Internet Settings", so what's up with the weather stuff?
