WindowBlinds has found a problem

For the first time in a long time I decided today to update my nVidia drivers, to the 71.84 WHQL set. I uninstalled the old drivers via CP Add/Remove Programs, rebooted into Safe Mode, ran Nasty File Remover to get rid of any leftover nVidia files, then installed the new set using the .exe downloaded from nVidia. Everything went smoothly until I rebooted into Normal Mode and got the WindowBlinds error message when I logged on. I adjusted by screen res and depth and rebooted again, and again got the WindowBlinds error message. The Skins tab is still displaying in DP and the WB SysTray icon is still there (but clicking it does nothing).

Before I reinstall, does anyone know a simpler fix for this? I don't know why updating the drivers would cause this, but that's the only thing I did.

It's working fine for me.

It *might* be that Win 2000 is causing the problem.

If you did not unload WindowBlinds and return Windows to the default theme before installing new Video drivers, your problem probably stems from that.

Remember, developers tend to create installers that are designed to be installed with programs closed and with Windows in the default theme. WindowBlinds is a program, so by not unloading WindowBlinds - you would still have a program running.

Saving your skins to a temporary folder and re-installing WB would be your best bet IMHO.
WindowBlinds - Free yourself of the default settings, customize your desktop.

Thanks Meowy & Corky O, but I was in Safe Mode to install the drivers & WB does not load in Safe Mode. I'd also updated drivers in exactly the same fashion a dozen or more times without any such problems.

I indeed copied my skins folders and uninstalled/reinstalled WB via SDC & all seems to be well again. I'm still puzzled what happened but am forced to conclude it was a fluke.

For what it's worth.... I've never unloaded WindowBlinds when installing new nVidia drivers, and I've never had a problem (knocks on wood) I'm not saying you don't have a point, but I never heed those warnings about closing all running apps before installing software. I like to push it, I reckon, and I'll probably get bit one day...

Yeah, I am very conservative as are all the people who have taught me - so, point taken and I will steer clear of making statements like that in the future.

I am so conservative, that I only load WB, NIS2003, OSA.exe (office) and my tablet at start-up.

The upside is it takes about 5 seconds for my desktop to load after typing password and hitting enter at the Welcome screen.

You dont need that.
I dont see the point- unless you use FindFast out of Office, which is so hidden.....
